Think Akanji is much quicker than Matip ever was
Tbf as a free from Germany iirc he was a brilliant signing for them
What impressed me most is that Akanji wasn’t at all shy as some can be on their debut for a new team, he was demanding the ball and was very progressive in his passing
We have had some great recent signings from Germany - Vinny, Nigel, Gundo, KDB and a certain striker (not seen enough of Ortega yet) - and surprised we don’t buy from there more often
Gomez also really grew into it after a slow start. As his confidence grows he will be a great asset, his natural left side crossing will be a real weapon
I hope you’re right about Gomez and players should always given a season to Integrate into Pep’s squad but I thought his positioning whilst defending definitely needs to be worked on. However he showed some great touches so fingers crossed he can do a job, only young so promise there.

Not a great advert for his game then, as I thought we were pretty poor in the first half (50-55 minutes in fact), he didn't do anything of note for me, and we hugely improved when he went off.
Keeping control of the football is paramount to Pep.

Grealish did that well and was more direct than normal.

Him playing on the left made Foden more dangerous too.

You and me both brother
Just don’t mention two years later. I am still gutted Luton Town FC didn’t go out of business and end up playing in the Bedfordshire Sunday League
Being relegated by Luton will always be a painful memory.

But I like to think we've had the last laugh.
