It’s a hard rule to change though as it’s there for the safety of the players.

What needed to happen was the light meter needed to be broken or forgotten about.

It was changed to discourage gamesmanship as well, it’s been a bit jobsworth today, there should be an amendment if both teams are happy just crack on.

I guess the umpires are assessed on their upholding of the rules and so had to be consistent, but that could also be ignored if both teams want the result to happen with a full crowd in.
 
As I've said before it's surely now time to make tests 4 days long. This is getting ridiculous now.They are barely lasting 2 days !
 
There is lights in every ground in the country use them! Last night the umpire jump the gun last night going off to early!
The rule is worded to say that there needs to be enough natural light to continue. It’s almost pointless having flood lights in test cricket.

Surely the length doesn’t matter? If we weren’t getting many results, I’d be with you and say we need longer to complete more matches.

Teams can’t bat for very long anymore, so games a naturally shorter.

What would the benefit of changing it to 4 day tests?
