There is a fundamental difference though.

We aren’t Aston Villa.
Nothing to do with the clubs involved fella, more how players can raise their profile & projected career earnings, his agent will be advising him to sign at a career high (it makes sense) the deal he signs now affects every deal he signs in the future

Which returns us back to my initial point. It will only matter if he entertains other clubs.

City will offer what they think he is worth. His agent will be holding out for more. Ultimately, it will depend on who blinks first.

If Foden doesn’t entertain other clubs, he’ll sign for less money.

Fair enough, still lost two years worth of higher wages and bonuses either way.
And his basic is only currently £12k/week. He’s obviously a patient fella! Dare I say, not a money driven player?

Which in turn brings us back to my initial point, he may be waiting to maximise his earnings by timing things just right (because he won’t leverage a move) after a good wc (I’m only speculating) it’s got nothing to do with other clubs, I doubt Phil would leverage a move for a higher wage, as was the case with KDB, who negotiated at a good time, representing himself when his stock was high, and in his negotiations set out what he was worth to the club, I can see Phil going down a similar route, both players could choose any other club in world football if they wanted, Phil will be advised to pick an opportune moment to get round the table, and with a hectic schedule both sides have probably agreed to wait

Phil has move a very long way in a very short time. I doubt he's a greedy bastard but deserves to be recompensed. he sighed a new contract not to long ago and he loves City. I don't wish him to not be compensated but I very much doubt he's on 12k a wk lucky bastard

Which, as someone else said earlier that he’s only on £12k a week, he’s running the risk of missing out on a lot of money. He could flop at the World Cup or even worse, get badly injured.

Players do use the Workd cup to showcase their talents, but it’s generally the unknown ones that do best from it, not the ones already at elite clubs.

I haven't read the whole thread but I presume 12k is before bonuses. ?

£12/week was what Foden’s contract was when he first signed the newest one he’s signed, which was his original first ever first team contract.

I don’t know if that was £12/week in the first year and staggered up year by year (do they even work like that?)… but it was definehely only £12/week when he signed it.

I'd be amazed if he's "only" on 12k per week. One of the country's brightest young talents, and an established member of the first team squad for the last 5 or 6 years.

Not saying he isn't, by the way. I have no idea what he's actually on, just offering my tuppenn'orth.

He’ll definitely be getting playing and achievement bonuses on top of that.

Think we’re splitting hairs ere fella, I only disagree with the fact you think he’d need to leverage a move for a better pay packet, the club would intimate there is no need for that (as they’ve done with others) more likely we are preparing a sort of contract for life, but keeping it at six years to protect both parties, with incremental rises every two years & possible extensions, along with some tidy bonuses for CL wins/balon dors etc
