12k a week is obviously nonsense. He is clearly in out top 3 or 4 best players. So will be on similar amount to what they are on. You don't treat one of your best employees by paying them 20 times less than a player of similar or lesser ability.

He‘s not signed a new contract since breaking through into the first team though, so his wage could be really low.

He’s still on his first ever first team contract. He’s never signed another one since that first one.

Nobody knows, but I think we can be sure he's not getting £12k pw. His deal may (will) have included regular upgrades dependin on performance, the only fixed bit will be the day it ends.

Well thats shocking and really poor from City.

Why is this, hasn't he been offered one? And why if that's the case?

City have been offering him new contracts for nearly two years but he’s not signed one yet. He’s still got two years left on this one and I suppose the longer he waits the higher he can get for that next one.

City are happy with that, Phil’s happy with that (plus he’ll be getting nice bonuses for appearances, goals, assists, wins and trophies) and his next contact will come soon enough.

I like the trust between the two parties with it all, to be honest. I like how Phil's not become a Diva!

EDIT- this still says that’s the case

(It does say he’s 0 years old, mind!)

What a deal Scott Carson is on. Hopefully he will sign something soon but you do wonder what is reasoning is for not committing to a longer deal as he does not seem like the kind of player to want to move/go abroad etc.

We have no idea really what is being discussed. He's obviously a brilliant player for us. He & his advisors may be looking for something a little different. Shares in the club/academy or similar as part of his wage. To eventually become a part of the coaching setup, management or even ownership. Who knows. City continue to revolutionise football with cfg so some sort of new thinking may happen with Phil. I worked in LA for a bit & was wandering down the street one day...low and behold there was a David Beckham soccer school right in front of me in a place i didnt really expect it. Maybe Phil would like to structure part of his wages into something along those lines for when he hangs up his boots. There must be a reason for the delay but i for one cannot see him at any other club.

Phil wants more money mate. He could pay for the soccer school out of his “new” contract.

Maybe Phil thinks City aren’t going to pay him enough. Maybe the dust needs to settle after Phil’s no show for our USA tour and he thinks a better offer will be forthcoming.

Whats the offer at the moment any idea? I think i read it would be around 150k per week. Surely that would suffice for a couple of years, (being on a par with Bernardo), then if his progress continues upwards a new deal would be offered. Just like a new one was offered a couple of years ago when he progressed.

Wasnt the Usa tour a covid related issue?

If these numbers are accurate then that’s atrocious. Don’t know what is worse, what relative pittance that Foden is on given his importance to this team or the ridiculous wedge that Jack is on.

So you think half of what Jack is on would suffice for Foden?

Yes reports ranged from £150k to £200k per week. I agree that a couple of years at those figures is fantastic money but Phil and his peole don’t seem to see it that way. Maybe his market value is more than that.

Phil excluded himself from the USA tour by not taking the vaccine. Everyone knew their immigration rules. Sponsors will have been disappointed. I don’t really care who does or doesn’t take the jabs but people should be available to play if they can (even in preseason).

His trusted solicitor and adviser died which held things up for a bit but his new reps are obviously a bit more aggressive in terms of their demands
He hasn’t helped himself tbh with his Covid stupidity affecting his availability to train and also some of his off field scrapes
Confident it will be sorted eventually but he is still a bit of a daft young lad from Adswood and he needs good advice and good people around him
