How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

In the article Truss is quoted as saying several times that the Ukraine war is the main priority. I bet we will hear this many times in the next few weeks when any questions on inconvenient matters like Brexit benefits are raised.
Meanwhile the fat oaf slips seamlessly into his new life now insulated from the shitshow he created and left behind.
Lets wait for the opposition to turn the heat up and try to hold the Tories to account on Brexit!!!

I’m sure the memo must have gone out to the party;
‘Where you used to say ‘vaccine’, now say ‘Ukraine’ in response to every question’

British exceptionalism at its best:

"I missed out on the deadline. Now I don’t want to sit the Spanish driving test on principle."
Just another example of people blaming anyone and everything but themselves. Until people are big enough to admit they were lied to and fell for it, there will be no moving on as a nation. These sort should be turning their ire on the lying lot that are still in power.

Is the right approach always.

But good luck.
Few I've spoken to just maintain they didn't vote for this (but along the lines of they were voting for a reformed EU....).

Yup people I know voted for this shit show have disowned it. They won't admit they've been duped though, that never going to happen I think.

Anyone here actually vote for this who thinks they were hoodwinked?

Still holding all the cards I see

It's as though the meaning and effects of 'Brexit' was a little bit more than just 'Taking back control'... who'd have thought/could have possibly known...sigh.

There were plenty who knew, and to avoid rational grown-up debate on the matter, they decided to deride opposite views with terms like ‘project fear’, and of course tell everyone we’d had enough of experts.
They knew better than anyone exactly what they were voting for.

Will the U.K. consider joining France’s idea of a European Political Connunity, or is even that idea too toxic? Amazing how timing can be an issue and excuse, the meeting coming in Prague the day after the Conservative Party conference, when Truss could comfortably cross the Atlantic the day after the Queen’s funeral. Maybe there’s a trade deal to be had in America…

I recall 'Operation Fear' by Remainers before the referendum and after the referendum result stating the British economy would collapse within weeks of the UK leaving the EU, there would be 100,000's of job loses, financial instituions and companies would leave the UK en-masse and move to Europe, companies wouldn't invest in the UK anymore, the employment market, housing market, etc would all collpase, the UK would come to grinding halt.
Hundreds of thousands of 'jobs' have been lost:
They started being lost before Brexit day. EU institutions which were based in UK, all went, taking the jobs to whomever bidded best among the gleeful other countries.

'Financial institutions would leave en-masse': they have, most have moved their headquarters out, leaving day-2-day financial stuff here, effectively exporting the money they earn out.

'Companies wouldn't invest in the UK anymore': investment for new jobs/opportunities has practically dried up, so that's more "thousands of jobs" that now aren't in the UK, let alone the investment.

'Employment market': this has reached record levels of vacancies... that's a sign of 1 of 2 things, the country is booming, or the country has lost a lot of it's employees. Talking to people with the 'help wanted' signs out, it's clear which one it is.

'Housing market': interesting one this, seems to be bucking the trend of downward spiral... heading for a bubble burst? Covid/lockdown - affects?

'Grinding halt' - yep, queues on borders/airports for travel and commerce, seem to be adding up to the slowdown in places that previously were perfectly fine. The amount of red tape now required to import/export/travel to the EU is killing off businesses (or at least making them vastly uncompetitive compared to EU) and causing disruption to travellers with a myriad of issues that had been previously resolved over the course of 50+ years.

It's a shitshow. And just over 50% of voters, who could be prepared to draw an X, voted for it. Turkeys voting for Christmas.

Has he mentioned PR?
Nobody has, save some Conservative commentators who have been signalling to the Tories of the danger of a coalition winning and legislating electoral reform. None of the parties have admitted there is a non-aggression pact let alone what might/might not have been agreed regarding PR etc.

Actually thought I was in the Starmer thread and he had said something to get my hopes up and maybe even get my vote.

Never mind:-)

You voted for this Brexit Benefit...
My mates wife is one of the recent class of whining Brexiteers. Mate and wife decamped to Spain pre Brexit and she refused point blank to transfer her driving licence. She now refuses to take the Spanish test as …big surprise.. the tests are all in Spanish.
Brings that brilliant quote from the tashed dipper Rush when he said ‘I couldn’t settle in Italy, it was like living in a foreign country.’

Speaking very generally us Brits really are a mob of halfwits.

Prior to Brexit, The Uk used to be the worlds 4th biggest exporter, by mid 2019 it had fallen to 11th and is still falling.

Tell us more about project fear.

I’m not even sure anyone pretends it is anymore. A winner that is.

One of the reasons we ended up with the crappy deal we did with the EU was to allow for the US trade deal which was ‘imminent’. Turns out that was bollocks, too.

Not that anyone with a half a brain thought it was fucking doable at all, let alone imminent. Unfortunately the half a brain mob comprised over 70% of Tory MP’s who thought it was in the bag.

Fucking morons.

There are plenty of driving schools here that will do lessons and tests in English. I imagine most are not willing due to the cost. Probably best part of a couple of grand to get it done and many are on their arses anyway.
They had 2 years to get it sorted, it was a fairly painless process as well.
Both Spanish and British consulates are still in discussions regarding an extension or a window to allow those needing to exchange to do so but the stumbling block seems to be the Spanish want access to the DVLA so they can find out if people are banned etc. it’s a reasonable request in my opinion but for some reason the British side don’t seem to want to agree.
Petty cunts.
