General Videogame Thread

What makes monkey island so good? Never played one but people seem to have it up there with any other games.
Like playing in a time warp, hours became seconds, I lost so much sleep because of that game and a couple of girlfriends!!

Anyone been playing the MW2 Beta on Playstation? I have a PC and a Playstation 5, i've pre-ordered on PC but the beta was open on PS before every other one and it was free since Sunday evening. Unfortunately i left my PS5 controller at someone's house and have had to play on Keyboard & Mouse, i'm really not that good on KBM so have been getting battered mostly.

Is MW2 a complete remake of the original but with same capabilities (just sharper graphics).

I haven't played CoD since WW2. Hoping that MW2 goes back to basics and is enjoyable. The running along walls and stuff got very silly.

Tried horizon zero dawn today and after so long on elden ring it just felt very ordinary. Got great reviews but feels very dated and not sure I’ll last long with it. Really on a gaming drought at the moment, nothing I’ve played recently grabs my attention at all.
Do you only go for the big AAA games? I ask because if you’re on a gaming drought you should definitely play some indie games. So much more creativity in them, in general.

Yeah normally. Played elden ring recently and loved that, but not really many other. Any recommendations?

Having a look at whats on there, on best indie lists (im on PC but have played these and enjoyed)

Hades
Hellblade - might be up your street looking at what you've played
Art of rally - cute little racer, can be hard though.
No Man's Sky and Subnautica for survival stuff.
Cuphead, Celeste and Hollow Knight if you fancy a platformer. Cuphead is hard though.

Just a few there to look at maybe. And if you've not played it I'll bang the Nier:automata drum again in this thread. Ignoring what the characters look like it's a top 5 for me.

Put a few hours into Mount and Blade: Warband but was starting to get fed up of constantly losing my troops. Good concept though especially for an older game but I don't have the patience.

Got an ongoing single player survival ongoing on Minecraft PS4. Always enjoyed this even since PS3 days, it's just so relaxing.

I'm on the verge of finally getting fibre to the home and intend to get a moderate gaming PC in the next year. Didn't see a point with a wireless unstable Internet connection.

Well, without knowing exactly what genres you like, I can only give you recommendations in the genres that I personally play and you can go from there :) Some games overlap into so many genres it’s hard to really pigeon hole them, but I’ve tried. These games include some of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

Platformer:
Celeste
Katana Zero (action platformer)
Spelunky 2

Roguelike:
Dead cells
Hades

Adventure/Exploration:
Outer Wilds
The Stanley Parable
Firewatch
Subnautica
A Plague Tale: Innocence (action adventure)

RPG:
Disco Elysium

Metroidvania:
Hollow Knight
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ender Lilies

Puzzle:
Baba Is You
The Witness
The Talos Principle
Fez

Run and gun/action:
Cuphead

If I had to pick my 5 favourites from this collection of games, I’d say Celeste, Hollow Knight, Disco Elysium, Outer Wilds & Ori and the Will of the Wisps, in no particular order. But it depends what you like really.

Play final fantasy 7 remake. It'll brings back some awesome memories whilst still being fresh.
I second Ori which is a superb game.
Deathloop is a cool game.

Cheers mate, that really is brilliant of you. I love rpg's and open world explorers and looking at some of those you have suggested might give outer wilds a go. Disco Elysium sounds interesting as well. Thanks

No worries. Disco Elysium has probably the best writing I’ve ever seen in a video game, it really is incredible. I’m probably going to replay it again soon tbh, I miss it.

Outer Wilds is a masterpiece and really rewards exploration. You are not told where you need to go, what you need to do, you just explore and piece it together. I’d also say it’s best to go into it as blind as possible, you don’t want to spoil the experience :)

I think it’s a new game rather than a remake unfortunately.
Yeah, it has the characters from the original MW2 but the game mechanics from the 2019 game & some of black ops. Fortunately they took away running on walls and super jumping or whatever it was, in the 2019 game. There is sliding, but they've also brought back dolphin diving from black ops (personally find it a bit pointless) which is just a forward jump to the floor. You can play the beta for free on Playstation (think it's still there) and see if you like it enough to order.

This is the Northern Quarter hipster of gaming lists haha.
