General Videogame Thread

I'm rather late to the party but I'm currently playing The Last Of Us Part 2 (played Part 1 years ago and can't remember much about it except the upside downy bit).

I'm aware that there was some controversy around it when it came out but I must say that I'm finding it to be excellent so far.

Great, immersive - and hugely emotive - story, great visuals and the map is brilliant (although it is of course 'on rails').

Not that far into it yet (Seattle Day 1 and just got into the WLF base).

Anyone played Stellaris?

Just started on console and I’m not really sure what I’m doing but I’m losing entire days and my sense of time, hunger or my bladder just completely left me.

Yes, I had to walk away after about 1000 hours for the sake of my marriage lol. I began on xbox, then went to pc & bought all the DLC.

Eventually I ended up installing Star trek mods - bloody brilliant it was. If you are in to your trek it spans the entire timeline & all civilisations.

The stellaris soundtrack is mesmerising, the massive battles after building your empire for 50 hours are a thing of beauty. The end of game crisis too (there’s a few of them), Damn you’ve made me think I should give it another hit!

Haha, the marriage bit I can relate to.

I’m still trying to figure out strategy, I’m on my 3rd playthrough, but can’t really figure out if I should invade folk or just be nice. I set up a federation and now in that with the two biggest empires but just seems a little boring being nice.

Though no idea how you get big enough to successfully invade someone.

I downloaded it and tried it once but I was in a Crusader Kings hole at the time, I really should give it a go.

It's a 10/10 game. The only 'controversy' was a bunch of kids or right wing Americans who decided to hate it because it has strong women and representation in it, with one of those women doing sumat bad to their favourite character. Of course there are people who didn't like it and aren't arsed about representation etc, but most of the controversy was around that. If you're a normal person and literally not arsed about a gay character etc, and understand that the main story beat was necessary to give the game a real emotional purpose, then you'll likely absolutely love it. It's a incredibly well written, beautifully performed game with ridiculously immersive and satisfying gameplay. Enjoy it! It gets better and better.

I had a very tech advanced militaristic & expansive empire alongside me, I pretty much submitted to them until the late game when I caught up tech wise with them, before surprise attacking them. On paper I didn’t stand a chance, but I worked out they were vulnerable to certain weaponry despite them having more powerful ships. There were 3 long prolonged wars with intermittent ceasefires while I rebuilt. I finally managed to defeat them and with that take over the rest of the galaxy. I then had the “wait, am I the bad guy?” Moment :)

I'm currently playing no man's sky, it was supposed to be an easier, less complicated version of Elite. But my god they're a lot to learn, mainly idiosyncrasies of the game.

It's beautiful and ingenious, but as a game you could just get into its quite immense.

Anyone here played Ready or Not? I quite fancy that, it looks a bit like the old rainbow 6 games before they sold out.

No Mans Sky worth going back to then? I played it when it came out and like most people went into it with huge expectations and was disappointed by the lack of content and quality in it. Sounds like they have done a hell of a lot to it to really improve it.

I started playing with a friend not overly sold on it yet

Are the lobbies back? I saw something on them on Twitter.

Half tempted to get it on PS5 as get a headset to go old school and piss about shouting abuse.
