The Conservative Party

1.10 to 1.07 is hardly a massive crash mate. It dropped 15 cents to day of the Brexit vote and 25c in the weeks that followed. THAT was a crash. And who knows where the pound will go from here.

Do you guys actually bother to look at things like rates before jumping on the bandwagon?

As I've said, most speculators at the moment have long positions in Sterling, i.e. they think the market has overreacted and they expect it to go up.
Nice to see you playing it all down with your 'storm in a tea cup ' argument Chips.
The fact is the Government have shown themselves to be economically ( and politically) incompetent and without a proper plan relying instead on faith and belief that it will all turn out right on the night.
The markets have sussed this and have reacted accordingly on gilts and sterling.
The only way Kamikwarsi can restore confidence is to reverse his tax cuts ( he won't) or impose stringent spending cuts to public services already decimated by previous Tory austerity cuts ( which is what he will do).
Cheers mate.

So.... once its all settled down we're going to get better mortgage deals coming back? How long do you think that will take?

Can I ask a genuine question here....................?

Where is Liz Truss? Anyone seen her since all this shit blew up?

No, thought not. Looks like Boris's title as the worst PM we've ever had is going to be a short Reign.
Bet Boris is laughing his tits at all of this. He left only a few weeks ago as pretty much the worst PM this country has ever had. Not in his wildest dreams did he think Truss could fuck it up to this extent where people reminisce about Boris and the good old days.

They've led the blind down the alley and the lemmings over the cliff.
They've lined the pockets of there rich backers whilst taking the food from the table of the poorest in society.
They've failed on every promise in their manifesto, they've torn us from our closest trading partner, they signed upto brexit with their fingers crossed hoping to renegotiate on aspects that don't suite us ( pretty much all of it) just so they could say they got brexit done.
Whilst the majority of us obeyed strict lock down protocol, they partied and laughed at us, even when faced with over whelming evidence they lied and smirked at us.
We now face months and years of uncertainty because these bumbling clowns couldn't run a piss up in a brewery, we are well and truly up the creek without a paddle, inflation is sky high, interest rates rocketing and no country trusts us.
The new PM has gone awol and there's far more questions than answers, we've got a government that would make most banana republics blush.
I'm normally optimistic, but I'm looking at everything going on and I'm fearful for our short and long term futures.

I think Chippy and Dan Hannan may be one and the same person

It’s Starmer‘s fault has to be right up there with the most lunatic ramblings this charlatan has ever come up with. The comments are priceless though and not what he’d have been expecting….

It was at 1.15 before the mini budget news came out but don't let facts get in the way of your agenda.
that's an 8% drop which gets added straight onto the cost of goods

I think the blond chancer knew exactly what would happen. The narrative will soon be starting that there is ’only be one man to save them from a rout at the next election’ and we all know who that will be!

A greased pig will most often escape. All he has to do is lie low and wait for the desperate call from the Tories to stand again.

He’ll be thinking about how to get back in already.

Was asking the same, myself. If the reported ‘argument’ between her and KK is true, it would suggest that the backlash we are seeing was not expected and that KK has talked her into something she wasn’t expecting.

The majority of the modern world is looking at the UK and thinking how could they get this so wrong, and Truss is at the epicentre of that pointing finger.

Making people poorer or society more unequal is the intent, not an unwanted side effect. It is about punishing people for the sin of poverty, if you were good or capable enough you would not be poor. It is not Govts business to help you, when you have clearly not helped yourself. It is very much a puritanical mindset, and akin to a religious belief.

It has little to do with capitalism or economics. It is about a belief on how society should be run and that only the deserving should prosper. At its heart it is a religion minus a deity.
The same was true of Osborne's austerity.
It was more of a political and social plan than an economic one.
It was sold on the basis of balancing the books but when he was booed at the 2012 Olmpics he dropped the balancing of the books bit and increased borrowing to fund tax cuts to businesses and the better off whilst keeping up the cuts to public spending and welfare.
Same old Tories.

I asked the same on the other thread yesterday.

My guess is that she’s had some sort of mental episode.

If you like a bet...

Boris Johnson is currently 12/1 to be the next Prime Minister, making him the second favourite to replace Liz Truss.

I rather think Admiral Austerity might be making a rather large comeback (as if he ever really went away) in November.….

But they will .... because Socialism
You’re right though, but it’s not so much ‘socialism’ per se, that they are scared of. To most of them a socialist is someone who simply has an opposite view to their own.
I know loads of them round my way. The are very comfortable with mortgages long since paid and good pensions and investments.
What keeps them awake at night is brown people in rubber boats and rampant ‘extremist Marxists’ like mick lynch somehow destroying their comfortable lifestyles.
You wouldn’t worry too much about their influence on a GE ballot, but the problem is, they are the ones who gave us truss as PM, and we’re paying for that- not them.
