I think that the guy is an absolute piece of shit but a society in which almost everyone was living at the standard of the average Norwegian and the remainder were billionaires would be better than an egalitarian society in which absolutely everyone was at the level of the average Eritrean.

But the point is that excessive inequality is not desirable. And that is what we already have in the UK.

And from another angle, this is no longer about equality anyway. It is about basic welfare - people having enough to meet their basic needs.

They've seen how successful cutting disability support was in reducing the number of recipients (I'm talking about the sickening number of societies most vulnerable who died as a result of this parties ideologically driven decisions)

As I posted at the time Boris and his govmt secrificed the Care Homes with many elderly deaths. Again this helped the State Pension costs.

There is a long established correlation between rising rates of mental distress and illness and neoliberal economics as practised in the UK, USA and Australia. For example, in Britain, apparently depression is the condition that is most treated by the NHS.

No I've been wracking my brains but can't come up with anyone credible either. The centrist element of the Tory party has been underestimating/misreading the right since the days of Thatcher's leadership campaign and that complacency means they now in effect find themselves purged. I think it's been easier to subvert the Conservatives compared to Labour, partly because of the level of backing they've had but also due to the nature of their membership and their structure.

I have to echo some of the comments above about mental well being.
I'd only started to really get myself back on track after a few tough years and I've genuinely been upbeat until quite recently. My tools and techniques for counteracting low moods are being stretched quite severely.
