The Conservative Party

I taught quite a few sixth-formers who went on to either Oxford or Cambridge.

What distinguished them all was an ability to think logically and laterally right there and then. And they were capable of spontaneous flourishes of originality both in their essays and in the arena of classroom debate.

They tended to be open-minded and empathic too, intellectually curious about ideas and theories that they did not necessarily identify with in any way.

Truss, of course, exhibits none of the above attributes.

It is possible for someone to be bright but so slavishly in thrall to a particular belief system that they are incapable of seeing the wood for the trees. So maybe that has something to do with it in her case, an inability to be comfortable with ambiguity.

But I really am struggling to comprehend how such a talentless, morally repellent mediocrity has got as far as she has.
Intelligence manifests itself in multifarious ways. As @meltonblue has identified, charisma is one such manifestation. Some people are too in the thrall of academic qualifications as the apotheosis of intelligence; in my experience it is not. Some of the brightest people I’ve dealt with could barely read and write.

Don’t get me wrong, some of the smartest people I’ve encountered professionally were Oxbridge graduates, but the notion that it’s an intellectual trump card, based on my professional dealings, (fwiw) is wrong.

Can’t be arsed with voting ,
Their all the Fooking same,
They all piss in the same pot ,
Labour let all the foreigners in,
Johnson said the NHS is better off £340 million a week, .

Well done to the all who took the bait.
We now sadly reap what you’ve sown.

I went to a grammar school that had a fair few that went to Oxbridge. Aside from a couple of them, I’d actually argue they’re less likely to be socially intelligent than some others and Oxbridge doesn’t help with them with that at all.

I think that side is equally critical, if not more, to being a successful politician, let alone a successful leader. The other key trait that she seems to be devoid of is proper empathy. That’s a very hard behaviour to imitate at the best of times, and nigh on impossible without the personality. Her attempts at it (in terms of knowing what she should say from reading it in a book but not being able to either actually feel it or deliver it authentically) makes her come across even worse.

So you don’t care who represents you in Parliament?
Not really. Like you, I have no choice and they’re supposed to represent us regardless.
Now, were we to move to a PR system, I would very much care who represented me in Parliament, as I would truly have a choice.

Legal compliant you say…

‘OBR confirms on record my story from 9 days ago that it prepared a draft forecast for new Chancellor waiting for him on first day at Treasury 6th September, and that an offer for a legally compliant forecast to accompany the mini-budget was rejected’ @faisalislam

This is the big story here.

The OBR have committed to report on 23rd November. They are independent of government. A tory creation but not a Liz Truss creation. There will be massive pressure on the next report. What can they say? Do they see a duty to 'protect' or do they stick to the hard facts and numbers. No doubt there will be back and forth - the only leaver that mad lizzy can pull is a massive cut to public spending. Lets see.

Yeah, apparently Truss is having an ‘urgent meeting’ with the OBR tomorrow. Interesting to see what comes out of that.

...unless she is the leaver...
