Police resume search for Keith Bennett's remains - BBC documentary

They moved his Mum and sister to a house opposite where I used to live in South Manchester. A lovely lady, very reserved obviously. Her daughter was very subdued and shy, again naturally.
I hope they find him to give him a proper burial to Rest in Peace.
A horrible and scary time.
Susan’s Grandson, Tony (who she brought up), was also murdered.

Winnie used to live in Morley Avenue Fallowfield..her grandson White Tony was murdered in Cheetham Hill..she didn't have much luck with family.
Hope they have finally found Keith's body, but it's a shame Winnie not here.
Wow really hope for the family sake it is Keith.
Didn't know about the White Tony connection. One of the Noonan's killed him I think

Winnie was a regular on the James Stannage show, always heartbreaking to listen to her

Yeah Dessie Noonan was name I heard from the family..
Saw Winnie a few months before she died at Christie's ..she was pretty ill at the time..nice lady.

Assuming the guy is correct and it is the remains of a human child and they can identify it, I don’t suppose it really matters whether it’s Keith Bennett or some other missing child, as long as some family get the answers they’re looking for.

From what I have read, the body found is in the same spot that the police took Brady back in the 1980s
the sicko knew and must have got some sort of kick going back knowing he was laughing at the police

He also murdered multiple people, this was why I found it hard to listen to Winnie; he was a known hillbilly and she said zero, in fact he lived with her for years at his height!
Everyone knew he was a gangster. Not sure Winnie would have known he was a murderer, but everyone knew he was a wrong ‘un, to put it mildly. Not sure if you’re saying she would or should have, but I find it plausible she didn’t.

Can I just give a universal “like” to every post on this thread? As you’ve all said at last he will be at peace with his family. His Mum never got the closure, she died a broken hearted person. I remember as a child one of my earliest memories in the sixties my Mum cuddling me saying how much she loved me after John Kilbride (who was a bit older than me) was abducted and murdered from Ashton Market which was in my home town.

Hindley and Brady resided in Hattersley, Hyde, grotesquely the same borough as Shipman.

Too sad beyond words, hope the remaining family get some crumb of comfort.

He was a control freak and that moment of taking him back to the moors gave him the ounce of control he craved. The cnut

I'm surprised there was apparently a "grave sized" patch of ground where the vegetation was notably different to the surrounding area, which is apparently how this guy found the burial site.
I would have thought after almost 60 years the vegetation would have grown back to be indistinguishable from the surrounding area.

Also if it was such a notably different patch of ground quite surprising that it wasn't observed on the previous police searches which I believe were in this exact area.

Now that presumably Keith Bennetts grave site has been identified I wonder if looking once again at Brady and Hindleys many photos will reveal pictures of them posing at the burial site as they did with their other victims?

I think It's something to do with the very dry summer we have had and lack of rain

Yes I did wonder if the dry summer weather could have played a part, but I still think after 60 years I would have expected the vegetation to have recovered sufficiently enough to be indistinguishable from the surrounding vegetation regardless of the weather conditions.

( I have worked on moorland regeneration projects so I have some experience of observing how the vegetation can regenerate from bare peat to nursery species such as cotton grass before a mixture shrubby plants such as Heather and Bilberry become established)

In the article it mentions the guy doing the searching had covered this area previously, so it doesn’t sound like it was very obviously different. It seems it was just a certain colour of vegetation that caught his eye, maybe only someone experienced with searching this type of land would notice. He had been at it a while, hopefully it’s the end.
