1974, as a FOC I remember it well; 3 day working week anyone? Not for me, I was in N Ireland working 15 hours a day and every 4 nights through the night to keep all the vehicles in Belfast on the road. F..king awful time.

Interesting that the only reason that the financial situation in all the various markets isn’t even worse is that the investment community don’t believe that Truss can implement her agenda and that there is sufficient pushback to prevent these disastrous policies being delivered, as proven by the income tax U-turn. We’re lucky that she does not have the support of the majority of her party or else we would be in the shit even more. Surely this situation is unsustainable and she’s got to go. It’s a sad indictment of the state of the Tories that it’s widely believed that at best she’s a lame duck unable to do too much damage before they get voted out at the next election whenever it is.

She's trying to form some sort of Tea Party-esque breakaway in the Tory party. All regulation must be torn up, slash taxes & welfare, the NHS restricts freedom of choice, ramp up immigration to flood the jobs market, destroy the unions etc.

The problem is that the nutters in the membership voted for her not really knowing all this, and there's only about 10 Conservative MPs who think that way.

Everyone else is going to want her out on her arse within a month.

We know how the Tory party work, and one look at the polls will already have the plotters scheming. Just a matter of when really.

Rory Stewart said on his podcast with Alistair Campbell this week something I'd not really considered before - that it's incredibly hard for a career MP to find a new job. Front benchers who get turfed out publicly land on their feet with a tidy gig at a think tank sure, but backbenchers will be looking at those predicted outcome maps where there's only 60 conservative seats and they'll be shitting themselves.

A more self-serving group you're unlikely to find, they will turf out Liz as soon as they feel their jobs are genuinely under threat.

We revised our tactical thinking for the game, believing that the best way to win was to play with two front men and two wingers. In midfield we had Asa Hartford and Gary Owen who adjusted their jobs to combing across the field instead of pushing forward, it was a 4-2-4 system that promised to pay off after Brian Kidd gave us the lead .

I gave Paul Power the full back job because I was impressed with his display in that role in Poland in the UEFA Cup. And also in the knowledge that we do at times need to re-think the manner we play at the back. When we meet opponents who only have two men up front we have a failing in not pushing up from the full back positions. In effect. we under-employ ourselves in defence when the benefit from break-outs at the back could be investigated. I believe in the sense of adventure if opponents permit you to have the initiative.
Paul once more did a grand job, giving extra weight in midfield when it was needed most. He’s a left-sided player who can perform most of the tasks on that flank and he has now acquired that assuredness which is essential to display in the First Division.

Dangerous woman to have in charge. We've already been tricked into cheering on sides in the Russian invasion like it's a football match or we are watching lord of the rings at the cinema - even calling the Russians orcs. Similar use of language to dehumanise groups of people as when immigrants were described as swarms or cockroaches. History is littered with such examples of renaming or dehumanising to mobilise public opinion - Hun, gook, etc. There are of course good reasons to stand for Ukraine and stand up for Putin, but as all else falls around her I'm sure it will be tempting for truss to do a bit of international grand-standing, just as the world is closer to nuclear conflict than it has been since the 60's. Having seen the recent example of how she has managed sterling, I don't feel all that optimistic about truss wading into current geo-politics.... .
