Liz Truss

Rely on John Crace: "All of this makes life well-nigh impossible for the more sentient members of Librium Liz’s cabinet who happily signed up to her agenda – anything for a top job – without realising she was seriously dangerous. Or dangerously serious. That she actually meant some of the batshit policy she had droned on about in the summer during her leadership campaign."

Lol:

"the first thing Charles said to her was “Dear oh dear”. The sort of thing he normally says when told Prince Harry has signed another book deal, or that Prince Andrew has agreed to give another interview to Emily Maitlis. Still, he could have been speaking for all of us. And on the plus side, he did refrain from saying “WTF”"

That's as may be, but sadly she's not actually resigned.

I'm not slow in coming forward with an opinion, but I'm genuinely flummoxed as to how this is going to end.

we just wall up both ends of Downing Street and leave anyone in there - elect a new Govt - install a PM in a new property and in about 5 years just go back and bulldoze the buildings and the remains inside then plough into the ground

The current position is untenable. If they totally u turn all the tax proposals then they are back to solid ground but have a PM who will have been destroyed within weeks. She will be a sitting duck for the opposition, a vacuum of authority.

So they will have to settle for something in the middle.

Crace's writing is excellent. I look forward to a time when his analysis is not required

It ends in a new PM, once again. Since the ball is still in the Tories’ hands, and they can’t win right now, it won’t be a general election, but rather another leadership election.

Rishi would probably fancy another crack at it. Mogg might run this time round. Would they even take BoJo the clown back? He did drop a few hints that he wasn’t done with the top job

It won't go to the membership. The MPs know that the members will pick whatever far right tool that gets the backing of the mail / express.

They won't do that again. It will only happen if its a done deal. A white smoke scenario coming from a locked room. Rishy or Penny on the basis they cane 2nd and 3rd in the last one. LT being forced to resign to trigger it.

But it would also trigger massive fall out. The loonies would go apoplectic. Membership revolt. Possible break up scenario.

Exactly 34% behind in the latest poll, no way will they go to the country, she's toast ir will happen this winter, just a matter of when.

Seriously the rules have to be changed, ditching the pm should mean a general election is called within a certain time frame, 6 months max, but ideally shorter.

U-turn everything, then get rid is my guess.

Its in tatters and its only going to get worse - mortgages and rents will still rise - utility bills are doubled - food prices are going up same with clothing etc - nothing she can do can reverse this now - its got to be lose a GE but act to limit the damage or go full suicide and fight it out with the LD's for 2nd place for a while.

Tens of thousands of Tory members did! They are the only ones and it should be them upon whom the opprobrium of the general electorate falls, and crushes.

On the subject of JRM, he comes across with every syllable he utters, that he is the 21st century equivalent of a Victorian mill owner, and I'm not talking Titus Salt material, or Robert Owen, or he is the owner of a Caribbean sugar plantation, or a District Commissioner in the Raj. There must be some truly woeful people in North Somerset who can return such a specimen to Westminster. His 'best and warmest' characteristic is the total indifference he shows to most things and most people.
I was thinking about the general election when I made that comment, not the tory party members, but yeah, I totally agree with you.

He is a 'let them eat cake' supporter.
