Liz Truss

The eighth out of eighth parlimentary candidate quip "ref Hunt" made me grin, as did the Lord Charles ventroloquist analogy. Very much saddened by the renagade on our two year energy support policy, now reduced down to 6 months.

If an election was pulled Right Now then we would both vote Labour for the first time in a long time. I enjoyed listening to the glamourous Rachel Reeves in veritable full flow.

Would'nt have been arsed if they had put the tax rate up to 22p because for a working mans wage its ever so negligable. As long as our NHS and police are funded to capacity, then thats a good start.

How does cutting tax by 1% assist the "working man"
What good is £1.40 savings a week unless I have my sums wrong.

Not even a cup of latte. Better spent on the NHS.

I don't think she'll be staying as PM for very long.

I was watching proceedings today in the House of Commons when Penny Maudaunt was at the dispatch box, answering questions Liz Truss should have been facing. There were 'genuine' reasons our Prime Minister couldn't be there, and though no explanation could be given, she did apologise for the damage the mini budget had brought to the country.

Half an hour later Truss turns up with the Chancellor, and he destroyed her ideological nonesense. It was in some ways like watching a father apologising for the wayward actions of his teenage daughter, and there she was, sitting next to him, quiet as a mouse.

I've never seen anything like it. Our Prime Minister being publicly humiliated on the front benches by a Chancellor basically saying 'You've been talking shit, it's had consequences, and it won't happen again, I'll make sure of that'.

In one of the largest crises this country has faced in generations, our Prime Minister didn't feel capable of answering a single question in the House of Commons.

It must be a new nadir in British politics.

must admit, thought this was hilarious.

I too thought RR was excellent and can agree on income tax.

The one very difficult decision you can guarantee Hunt won't take will be to increase the higher tax band to 60p in the pound.... absolute certainty.

The explanation was....... she had to have a meeting with the chair of the 1922 back bench committee. If ever there was a meeting that could be moved, this my friends was it...... feeble at the very best. It ranks alongside "the dog ate my homework sir".

Jeremy **** just put the noose over her head.

Annoys the fuck out of me when people interviewing her meekly accept her pitifully scripted non-sequitur answers. Shows a complete lack of professional self-respect. Ask the fucking question again. Usually works for me.
And keep asking until you get a fucking answer.

Real hard hitting political journalism dies many years ago amd is very rare to see anyone actually challenge politicians in power.

She is going nowhere. Yesterday's meeting with the 1922 was to tell her to keep her head down and let the big boys do her job. Her 'advisor's' have given her their instructions and she will toe the line and brass it out. They can't afford another change in PM.

Longer she stays the more it guarantees a Labour victory - I actually think Sunak could turn it around for the Tories - so continuing with Truss is just hilarious

I’m not so sure about that. The country is heading into a horrendous storm, much a legacy of Brexit and much a result of the war in Ukraine, but her actions have now exacerbated it and given everyone a reason to blame both her and the Conservatives. They need someone who is capable and competent in public, and Truss is not that, so even if someone else is in charge of policy, she is the face of government and how the markets and international community react. Every gaffe will be magnified and indicate that the country remains in chaos.

The key thing now will be the OBR figures. I suspect they are going to be terrifying and people then might start wondering how the country got into such a mess.
