The Album Review Club - *** Christmas Break Playlist (next album 7/1/26) ***

They sat together in the park
As the evening sky grew dark
She looked at him and he felt a spark
Tingle to his bones
'Twas then he felt alone
And wished that he'd gone straight
And watched out for a simple twist of fate

They walked alone by the old canal
A little confused, I remember well
And stopped into a strange hotel
With a neon burning bright
He felt the heat of the night
Hit him like a freight train
Moving with a simple twist of fate

A saxophone someplace far off played
As she was walking on by the arcade
As the light bust through a beat up shade
Where he was waking up
She dropped a coin into the cup
Another blind man at the gate
And forgot about a simple twist of fate

He woke up, the room was bare
He didn't see her anywhere
He told himself he didn't care
Pushed the window open wide
Felt an emptiness inside
To which he just could not relate
Brought on by a simple twist of fate

He hears the ticking of the clocks
And walks along with a parrot that talks
Hunts her down by the waterfront docks
Where the sailors all come in
Maybe she'll pick him out again
How long must he wait?
One more time for a simple twist of fate

People tell me it's a sin
To know and feel too much within
I still believe she was my twin but I lost the ring
She was born in spring
But I was born too late

Blame it on a simple twist of fate

The scores are in for Bob Dylan, and it isn't looking pretty. His live show, At Budokan, got 13 votes at an average of 5.46. However, once again this choice prompted a lot of good debate and discussion so thanks to @KnaresboroughBlue for the nomination.

Now, from one Bob to another - step forward @BimboBob for this week's choice.

Just putting it out there, if Bimbo is a no-show, I'm ready with the clue and a nomination. Write-up might be tomorrow morning as I'm out later.

Happy for someone else like Eamo or others to jump in ahead however if ready

If Bob hasn’t shown up by 9.00PM, you’re on. I think that’s a fair enough call.

I would nt be ready until later either.
I’m home now if required, but I’m in a similar dilemma to knaresboro.
I have two choices the reason being, I would want to pick the album as it was released in America but you can’t get that now. I have a different pick if a certain song or two aren’t allowed with the stream that is now available.

Complicated!

If you need me I’ll explain.

It's like taking a penalty mate. Once you've picked which way you'll go, stick with it or you might shit the bed

I know which one I want but the version streamed now by Universal who own the rites to the music does not contain two belters which were put on the American version at the expense of one other more poppy song.

One of these songs has been the theme to my whole summer and the reason I picked this band. It really should be on this album as it was from the same studio recording, but put out as an EP. between their debut album and the album I have in mind.

The current streams of their work has the two songs in question on the debut album.

So my dilemma. Go with the debut which is much more accessible. Probably an easier listen or go with my instincts for a much artier record that I doubt will be appreciated in three listens and doesn’t contain the one song I want you to hear.

Best you go for it @Coatigan

Or I’ll just flip a coin.
@RobMCFC what do you think?

You'll just be facing the same dilemma next week (or whenever your turn is). So why not just go with your heart?

All is in there. I might have got the quiet shift, with only a few on, but at least there will be stuff there tomorrow to get into.

Primal Scream?

There's a scream there and they are a Scottish band (I think) and the poster is, I believe, Scottish. So my logic is faultless on this one. Probably wrong though ;-)

Your logic is not unsound.

But the guess is off the mark.

I'd say, group the EP and the album you want together. One man's accessible is another's meh.
