10 | Jack Grealish - 2022/23 Performances

Anyone who has read my previous posts about Jack will know I am not a fan of his. I think he was a luxury purchase we didnt need and if the Club had a £100m burning a hole in its pockets it could and should have used the money to reinforce other areas of the squad (eg fullbacks).

Despite my doubts I have been trying hard to warm to him but he simply isnt delivering. He has been given so many opportunities by Pep but apart from the odd half decent game has failed to produce time and time again.

As things currently stand neither he or Mahrez deserve to be in the starting eleven as we have so many better options.

Oh its disputed, just look at the posts telling us how Jack needs to change his game how he has X amount of time to prove himself all the while Pep picks him and he plays as instructed as otherwise he wouldn’t play.
Yes this forum we can discuss whether Jack is playing well or could he improve. We can even discuss whether we as individuals can see or understand exactly what Pep wants from him.
What you and a few others are discussing is how he isn’t doing what Pep asks him to do and Pep is picking him for other reasons, that the team is carrying him and Pep is happy for the team to carry him. Thats when this thread becomes ridiculous after every game he plays.
Basically some people put Jack playing how they want him to play above how Pep wants him to play and then twist things to try and show Pep agrees with them but plays him regardless.
If I spend more time talking about Pep thats because Pep and the TEAM performance are more important than any individuals part in that team.

Personally I thought he was great. Posters need to remember that he is still a kid (at least in football years), still needs a couple of years before we see the best of him.
 
For me , I think we need to give Grealish a little bit more freedom or he has to play a bit more risky. He is never going to score goals if he passes backwards or across instead of having a go himself.

He is very, very good in terms of progressive dribbling , I think he has to take on men more and beat them like he did at Villa.

Yes, this Almiron stuff is just keeps coming back to haunt Grealish.
While even in April/May Grealish will have a stat for PL like 2 goals, 1 assist and I may be too optimistic here...
 
Should play him in a more central role which I believe is his best and more natural position.
Mind you the same could have been said of Mahrez and Pep never changed that situation!

Cant think of any player with City that offers so little, always wanting and wanting him to deliver but he hasnt. If he was brought in from the youth team and produced what he has he would of been sent out on loan. Think would be best for him to miss the world cup and stay in Manchester with Pep and the rest of the coaching team.

Give your head a shake, when you have finished ask yourself why did Pep buy him? why does Pep play him?, a slightly different player but with similar stats is Silva, so is Gundogan`s if you take his goals away which will happen this year as we have Haaland, it is not wrong to not understand someones strengths, you just have to understand who it is the media is attacking and why.
Lets just say this has an awful lot to do with Maguire.

I've just looked at the CL table and you are right.

Grealish going off when we were losing against Sevilla and Grealish going off when we were losing to Dortmund were both pivotal decision that saw us top the group.

Pep definitely knows what he's doing when we are struggling and need to go back to 11 men.

He will be going nowhere. Think there’s a few in here who need to come to terms with that. I don’t think he’ll be getting judged by the same metric within the club that he is by some fans. I’m sure there’ll be more expected from him from Pep but overall I don’t think he’ll be too disappointed by him so far.
