CFG Expansion | Başakşehir to join? (p70)

We will see I suppose. The ECJ decision may surprise me. I just don't see any change to the FIFA/UEFA/FA/club model. And I don't have a problem with that, really.
Dont know what happened, this below has appeared attached to the wrong post. It is about the next story, CMC. SORRY.

Iirc, the Chinese gov insisted on a share as part of our ability to buy a chinese club. CFG created new shares just for them. Didn’t Xi visit the Etihad? Looks like a U turn now the Chinese economy is in serious trouble from a property/lending crisis.

Yes, very possibly. I think I read somewhere that the government were discouraging investment in sports. Or maybe I dreamt that. I have been having some weird dreams lately.

Unusual to resign from the board, though, if they are selling their share. That would normally happen after, not before. So maybe a move to being a passive investor rather than active, following the government's wishes.

Still, wouldn't be surprised to see some major new investors soon at CFG or Midco and maybe it's to do with that ....

Clearly manoeuvres going on backstage. We will find out eventually.
Strange dreams you have, I prefer to dream of Scarlet Johansson, Nat Pike, and the rest of my oneiric harem.

Hey, hands off Scarlett. She is mine.

If only she knew it :(

This may be Sheikh Mansour preparing for a future where football clubs will own their own content and broadcasting rights. Clubs will broadcast matches direct to their own fans and cut out the middle men. To do this this they will (at least in the medium term) partner with firms who specialise in this area. This will be a painful goodbye to organisations like SKY and BT and will kill off the crooks at FIFA and UEFA.
Some sort of Superleague is inevitable because the revenues involved will be staggering, a huge increase on the current broadcast deals. I am not saying this will automatically be a good thing for fans but history has shown that you can't stop the march of technology. CFG could be offering pay-per-view broadcasts of all kinds including football and boxing/music/esports/basketball at the new Co-op arena. The same sort of opportunity would be on the cards in New York with the new investment there.
I don’t think this is too far away.

Fans already can’t stand any kind of perceived bias against their teams from “neutral” pundits.

I’m sure football will have far more balanced debate when all clubs have their own channels and pundits blowing smoke up fans’ arses.

I assume the Midco suffix has come from somewhere a google for existing companies with that name and closest match is

They could be interested in becomeing partners with CFG given their interest in broadcasting sport and internet services.

CFG make a big deal of the possibilities of internet be it using it to share data or perhaps entertainment

Wondering if NYCFC are ditching or can ditch Yes Network and replacement them with Midco
Unlikely to be anything to do with that.
Many companies have complex holding company structures with names like midco, topco etc. as part of the name of the companies. Midco will simply mean that it is in the middle of the structure with CFG above it and MCFC below it.

Presumably the Chinese shares will be bought by either mansour or silver lake.
I remember reading that Silver lake had already bought some of the CMC shareholding over the past 18 months or so, although I could be wrong.

Will be interesting to see what happens to the CMC shareholding if they really do want to sell their stake, particularly given what’s going on with our heavily-indebted near neighbours and the dippers. If either of those deals set very high valuations and attract new types of investors, then a c8% share in CFG would be a very attractive proposition for people wanting a passive exposure to the market with England’s best team.

There is also the issue of the new share issuance announced the other week, which is around about USD 1 billion of new capital. You do get the sense that something quite significant could be happening behind the scenes.
