Thought Kane did ok and was crucial for at the back when USA had a corner or set piece Saka did ok to the one player that stuck the team out was Sterling! That should of been the first sub at half time take Sterling of for Foden!

Bottom line Southgate has his favourites and that team last night was all his favourite and once Walker is fit he be in to! Then Trippier will be left back!

If player knows the manager doesn’t believe in him it will effect the player and why we see a different Foden in the England side he tries to hard to impress this clown manager who will not start him in any important game! Foden probably get a start against Wales or an 30mins..

A win yesterday and then he could have rested several players for the Wales game and given starts in that game to Foden or Madison, Wilson, Rashford, Dier, Phillips and any number of others....players who might be needed to deliver in a crucial knock out game later in the tournament. Instead Southgate gets the team playing like strangers with an ultra cautious approach where he was more than happy with a point. Now he needs to go full strength v Wales and half the squad will remain without any meaningful game time, assuming we qualify.

First game I’ve watched in this World Cup and it was fucking awful. A Friday evening of my life I’ll never get back.

Could have been going to watch City today, instead we’ve got this stupid WC and that terrible game last night with no City for another month (and fuck knows what state our players are going to come back in!).

Don’t think I’ll bother tuning in again until the semis.

Bag o’shit!

Turned the tele on thinking I'll watch the cooking show that sometimes has the nice looking Irish lass on and it's Tunisia v Australia. Spent five mins thinking about the physics of very dark coloured kit and turned it off. By now I should be looking at the pre match thread to see which of our resident catastrophists are already papping themselves. It's not right!

Initially I thought we were being spoiled because in Pep we have the best footballing manager on the planet. Flair, style, entertainment - all essential ingredients to Pep's successful recipes.
But then after maybe 15 minutes last night I realised the futility of making comparisons between the two: one is a master chef and the other, if he made a slice of toast it would have bones in it.

What we saw last night was as inept a performance from professional footballers as we are every likely to witness. And it is going to get worse.
Hodgson had his favourites, and didn't we just know it? The man who once famously remarked: "If Wooney had a bwoken leg he'd still be the first name on the sheet." And now Southgate is carrying on this tradition of building teams around his favourite players.
To see Phil sitting there on the sub's bench while the consistently ineffective Henderson strolled about, waving his arms, shouting, and making sideways passes was enough to convince me that Southgate has some kind of vendetta against our man. What, and why, we'll probably never know: but nothing else explains the Waistcoat's apparent reluctance to put him on the pitch and let him do his thing.
The technical ability of players like Foden in this country has outgrown old school mentality managers like Southgate, a man who’s only managerial position in senior football was relegating Middlesbrough from the premier league in the mid 2000’s.

Southgate might be a fairly young manager in terms of age but not in his mentality

England need a manager that’s more aligned with the modern game and favours technical ability over running around a lot

Not much running around a lot on view last night..

I thought the US team played great.
Goalkeeper - needed a deckchair.
Defensively completely solid, no gaps.
Midfield, active, skilful (the close ball control of some of them, was marvellous), and quick to go from getting the ball to running with ball into space.
Attack, quick, pressing, skilful and full of energy.

On the England side:
Goalkeeper, fine, and clearly annoyed as hell at what was going on in front of him.
Defense, very solid considering having to deal with a team that ghosted past England midfield.
Midfield, dire and made worse by the introduction of Mcpointy 2.0. No runs, no pulling players out of position.
Attack, poor service from midfield, exacerbated by lethargy and poor positioning, arrival of Grealish only bright spark on a dire frontline.

Not sure he should have. There's nothing on his cv to suggest he's capable. He was a failing under 21 manager after failing to hack it at Boro that fell into the job because the FA desperately needed a yes man that wasn't going to create any off field headlines after the Big Sam debacle and were then too lazy to find an actual replacement.

When he's eventually ruined England's best chance of winning and goes, he will get a few opportunities off the bck of being such a high profile figure fail miserably, get sacked and will either never be seen again or do a Paul Ince and take any lower level job he cn get his hands on and continuously fail time and time again.
Spot on there fella. That will cover quite a few pages of his biography titled -The waistcoat and how he got away with it. £1.99 at all good book stores and some bad ones.

Southgate is not starting (or bringing on, in yesterday’s case) the player in the England squad with the highest goal contributions in their domestic league this season, and who has the second highest goal total in their domestic league this season (behind Kane). And who has played False 9 many, many times, which is very similar to CAM/CM.

His excuses are nonsense.

Can only assume Phil is on the naughty step for some reason, because surely not even waistcoat could be this stupid (and self-destructive) otherwise.
Saw a comment yesterday and basically, the best manager in the world, all time some may argue, plays Foden week in week out for the majority of the season yet, some charlatan who wasn’t even good enough for Middlesbrough doesn’t even bring him on let alone start him, tells you everything you need to know about how utterly clueless that yes man gobshite is

I truly believe he’s never really forgotten nor forgiven Foden for that incident with the girls and Greenwood

Found Southgates comments about Foden not starting the middle for City, hence why he cannot play for England in the middle idiotic.

So we need to keep Kane in the side for opposition set pieces….. fuck me we might as well play another centre half then.

This is it. Nailed on.

Despite how impressive it looks on paper to reach a semi and a final, Southgate's only really achieved one impressive knockout result (Germany 2-0). Otherwise it's been stodgy football that works up to a point but gets undone by the first organised team they come across, and that's exactly what will happen in 2022.

They need someone more ambitious, more in tune with just how technically gifted this squad is. Grealish is sat on the bench while the midfield struggles to move through the thirds, Foden is sat on the bench while Sterling loses the ball in the final third yet again. England play it nicely but they're shit at recycling the ball.

If this isn't Southgate's last tournament this era will be looked back on as a huge missed opportunity.
Germany were in turmoil before the tournament and leading up to that game. They were recognised even in their own country as one of the poorest german teams for a generation or more.
Waistcoat has not beaten one decent team ranked higher than them in any tournament match. Not sure he has in qualifiers either tbh but we may not have played one tbh.

The Iran tesult was our Panama game from the previous world cup. We can't expect such lucky draws for ever. First good team we face bye bye England. Let's hope its early or the daft cunts at the Fa will give the tit an extended contract.

So we need to keep Kane in the side for opposition set pieces….. fuck me we might as well play another centre half then.
Don’t worry, once the group is over with there will be another centre half …

Obviously at the expensive of a creative position
