FA Cup 3rd Round Draw | Chelsea (H) | 4:30pm, Sun 8 Jan

Radio 2 12pm I had a decent teacher ;)
Radio 2, that takes me back! They used to have 2nd half commentaries in the 70s and 80s didn't they. From memory i think they would only say at half time which game they were covering. (Normally bloody Liverpool !) Though I do seem to remember listening to the whole of the Everton 1981 FA Cup QF replay midweek (I might be wrong though!)
Peter Jones, Bryon(?) Butler, Maurice Eccleston(?)I'm not one of these FOCs who thinks everything was better 'back in the day' (some things were, some weren't)but commentators definitely were!!!

Used to love Jimmy Armfield on co-commentary on R2 and later 5 live. A true gent who was fair and knowledgeable

Radio 2? Newfangled nonsense. It’s the Light Programme.

Listening to Graham Kelly announce in a boring voice ‘this is the draw for the 3rd round of the fa cup’ Ted Croker will draw the home teams and Bert Miilochip the away teams …then rattle of balls and Number 21 …pause then name of team.

They just read out the names and that was it.

Surely it’s the draw for the Football Association Challenge Cup

With the league game being Thursday night, can see this only being a late Sunday kick off or the Monday evening game.
Late Sunday kickoffs aren’t great for generating atmosphere are they unfortunately? @Manchester33
Was kiboshed by Sky choosing Thursday 5th for our league game meaning zero chance of a Saturday KO whoever we drew, sadly.

Saturday teatime could’ve been a great atmosphere.

The late Sunday kick offs aren't the worst, they just not as good as the late Saturday kick off.

Saturday teatime in one of our first seasons at COMS, we beat Chelsea thanks to an Anelka penalty. They won the league that season and that was their only defeat I believe ?.
That really was a good atmosphere that day, also remember the City fans singing to Chelsea manager Maureen something about his coat being 'from Matalan'! when questioning his 'dress sense'.
Not knocking that shop btw, especially in these days of watching what we spend. (However, I wouldn't imagine old Jose had to watch what he spent either then or now!)

And it was the “third round proper” Always used to confuse me as a young kid.
Yes, sounds a bit condescending now, doesn't it. That would imply that all the games played by the lower league and non league teams in the early rounds of the FA Cup werent 'proper football.'
As someone pointed out earlier in this thread we had a couple of (1st and 2nd round) ties that weren't 'proper' FA Cup ties in the late 90s didn't we!.
Mind you, as we are told by the media, especially SKY( and we all know anyway ofcourse) the only real 'proper 'football anyone is really interested in involves couple of teams in red from the North West!

You've got that a bit wrong I think. There is the 1st/2nd/3rd etc PRELIMINARY rounds and then it changes to the 1st/2nd/3rd etc round PROPER.

Denton lad and Blackpool Legend, my Dad was a Blackpool fan and got to play cricket against him whilst in the RAF, said he was a lovely fella and talented cricketer as well as a brilliant footballer.

Sadly whilst a player he didn’t win any medals but was awarded a World Cup 1966 medal in 2009 as did all members of the squad. He was a bit unlucky as he joined Blackpool 12 months after the famous 4-3 FA Cup victory over Bolton Wanderers.

Actually I think it is:

Extra Preliminary round
Preliminary round
Qualifying rounds
Proper rounds.

Sounds a bit silly but probably not as silly as the alternative, which would be the big teams entering in about the 12th round or whatever.
