It's one of those declarations if it comes of it's a great move, if it doesn't it's a shit one but fair play to England they stuck to their approach and gave everyone a fascinating 5th day to look forward to

yep

I understand the new approach by England and stokes, it was a gamble knowing the wickets is flat and still good for batting, but it never put the pressure on them and even dare I say it took the win away from England.

what was it 20 overs after tea plus possible 90 overs tomorrow to score 343 and it ended on 80/2 needing 263
the funny thing was looking at stokes when the umpires called time, clapping and smiling, I think he knew he and the coach have dropped a bollock here

You'll remember Flintoff's Ashes series when he bowled about 5 overs fast and then went off for a massage and bowled again a couple of hours later? Is it possible that Stokes is the same, and can't bowl longer spells any more?

I think in this case it was more to bad light and the umpires would have taken them off early,
the ball will only last 20 to 30 overs bouncing it all the time, so spinners will have to work hard tomorrow to stop them winning because It's still a good wicket,

this new approach is all well and good if you got the bowlers to Finnish them off, but it's a very good wicket for the batters. 90 overs and only 263 to get with 8 wickets in the shed, i say they are fav to win

Well I don't know, but the England team in cricket thrills me much more than their counterparts in football, these days.
Love the way how in the bazball era they throw down the gauntlet to opponents.
And if they lose, it will have been a great test match. If anything will bring the crowds back to the five-day game, this style will.

For old schoolers like ourselves we would have preferred another 40 atleast from english point of view but present English side goes by the mindset of living by the sword and dying by the sword, secondly i think Livingstone might not have been fit enough to bat so they thought instead of tail eating up time and overs it's better to just put Pakistan in and going for it

It puts a marker down as well, even if they lose.

I wouldn't say Pakistan are favourites, our top two players are in the hut and azhar ali is a doubt, other than that it's not a very experienced line up and with lack of experience chance of buckling under pressure increase significantly

you're in the driving seat with 90 overs and only 263 to get.
yes, a couple of wickets down but one good innings from somebody like Iman ul-Haq who is in and already settled

the big thing is you don't have to chase and score quick runs, also the new ball is 70 overs away, so it will be mainly spin after a quick burst from the England quicks in the morning.

Hadn't thought of the ball going soft, good point.

I can't say I like the idea of continuous bouncers - I know Pakistan batsmen tend to be shorter than England batsmen, but the stumps are generally important. I think they used a similar idea against India some years ago, just not to the extreme of every ball.

It won't be 90 overs though, will it? Mightn't be much more than 70-75, given the daylight.

I just think it may be a bad call ? small ground fast outfield and only England having swing bowlers and average spinners, it may well be a New England but losing still has questions to ask

At best we, ll get 80 overs in tommrow and england will have 20 overs with the new ball atleast so i wouldn't say anyside is in the driving seat, if anything, england have a slight advantage

Like i said before if it comes of you're a genius and if it doesn't you would feel like a tit for making that move but if it was upto me i would have gone for another 40 runs to put the game beyond Pakistan and not giving them a sniff, interesting day ahead
