Looks like we've beaten off a good bit of interest to sign 14 year old Sheffield United and England u15 international, Kylan Midwood.

He has been getting game time for Sheffield United u18s at just 14 and impressing lots of other clubs by sounds of it, he scored his first goal for their u18 side a month and half back below but can't find much else about him.

He looks like one for the future but must be quite advanced to be playing at that level, after Fabrizio Romano announced it a few days back I noticed nobody had posted his name anywhere on the forum, even if maybe a tweet of him has been shared somewhere.

Wasn't sure where to post this but then thought he's pretty much signed sealed and delivered, so this can just be his EDS & academy thread.

Welcome to Kylan and good luck to him.

He will have to be good to get a game in U18 next season when you look at depth and quality of current first team scholars. I think he will need to show more patience at City than at Sheff Utd.
Crazy these purchases so young, surely see what the academy produces first then buy at 16/17?

They're not strictly purchases, compensation for training aside. If they're good enough then any academy will attempt to get them on the books as early as possible and let them train with better facilities and better team mates to drive them on.

These boys are naive - look at the current England team; very few of them came through at top clubs. It’s better to pay your dues at a ‘lesser’ academy, and play regular senior football as early as possible to develop rather than be one of many stockpiled starlets.

If Bellingham was at City or United, he’d have still been playing u23 football at 18.

I'd hardly discount Dortmund as a top club, he walked into their 1st team squad and very quickly made himself a starter.

Mason Mount - Chelsea
Declan Rice - Chelsea (/West Ham)

Phil Foden - Manchester City
Kieran Trippier - Manchester City
Raheem Sterling - Liverpool (/QPR)
Trent Alexander-Arnold - Liverpool
Conor Coady - Liverpool
Harry Kane - Tottenham

Plus these who didn't make the squad for one reason or another:
Reece James, Tammy Abraham, Marc Guehi, Fikayo Tomori - Chelsea

Not to mention all of the players who end up playing for other nations like Nathan Aké, Kasper Schmeichel and Paul Pogba.

Name a young British player who’s been poached by City, Chelsea or United in their mid-teens who’s managed to establish themselves in the team at any of them.

Micah Richards from Oldham.

John Terry from West Ham.

Ryan Giggs from us.
(Beckham from Spurs... Just in case you meant Prem years)

Declan rice, raheem sterling, tripper, shaw, the list is endless, and that's off the top of my head

Edit sorry meant to reply to the guy who you're replying to

They don’t need to come through at the club who’s purchased them. The player will know the chances of breaking through is slim to non, they go there for the platform the club can provide so they can gain a career in the game. The clubs simply see it as business, by too young players for cheap and hope to sell on with a further sell on clause included.

They all have different pathways, and what worked for Jude Bellingham won’t work for every other player as Jude was fully developed at a young age.
