I like bluehammer but there is no reasoning with him with regards to England. Every tournament we get knocked out by the first half decent side we meet. We tell him this will happen, he disputes it, says we should get behind them, we have the right manager etc..

And then it happens again, and again and again.

If I told him the sun is coming up tomorrow even after a year of it happening everyday he would suggest we give the moon one more chance to hang around all day.

He is no different to some on here with City and the champions league though so no need to judge him badly. He is just Uber positive despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

A lot of us are just England weary based on solid logic.

You don’t have to be a prediction genius to think England won’t win the WC and we’ll fall short at some stage

I’ve constantly repeated that I don’t think we’ll win the WC even if you have the best manager and players, tactics etc because tournament football means anything can happen - which is exactly what happened yesterday - Lloris had a blinder, Ref was crap with a few decisions, Missed penalty etc - it’s such fine margins and we deserved to win - that’s football

No different to City in the Champions league Is it ?

Just because we’ve not won the WC in donkeys years shouldn’t mean we should automatically be negative towards England every tournament

Headline from a piece in the 'i' newspaper today.
'Southgate emerged as a daring, mighty coach in Qatar'
This is precisely why we're fucked as serious contenders for any future competition of any worth.
FFS - utterly ridiculous bollocks

Also avoided relegation from Prem? I’m not a fan don’t get me wrong but Southgate getting the England job based on his CV was baffling
He was appointed as an interim because his predecessor was caught out in a corruption scandal and got the job after positive results. Nothing strange at all.

How far do you think fat sam would have taken England? The FA stumbled on a successful appointment after making a dreadful one and luck conspiring to get rid of him.

he said "based on his CV" and he is right.

Hard to say isn’t it but Allardyce often found ways to win and he never had great teams. Would’ve been interesting to see. I think Southgate has been carried by the players. His subs last night made us worse.

Do you think it was a mistake for Barcelona to appoint Pep?
No - appointed by football people with football knowledge and their knowledge of him as a player and a person. Proved right. But I tell you this, if he had performed as miserably as Southgate, he would have been dropped as quickly as a plate of hot tapas - and not defended endlessly by clueless fanboys with no intention of advancing the discussion, save lobbing in a few not so pithy non sequiturs.

Won more than Southgate
I was joking, and o. won more, as a manager? a league title in a league akin to the 3rd division isn't that great an achievement.

as a player he won stuff but that meams nkwt in management terms.

if gerrard was appointed I would be less enthusuastic than having southgate

We'll never know, but as England have almost always gone backwards under similar managers, it's unlikely fat sam would have done better.

Southgate was prepared to change the style and formation and deserves credit for how far he has taken the team.

Lol. In club football you get at least three chances to win a trophy every year.

In international football you get two in four years. If that's your only measure of success then most managers are abject failures.

I'd hate to think what Christmas and birthday mornings were like when you were a nipper.
