Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Not doubting you or Tolm.

Lots of rumours swirling about from different sources.

People posting 2 tiers.

City can put an amended planning application in. It would sail through.(as we know) Another rumour being, construction of the North stand won’t start until the Coop Live Arena is finished. 12 months away at least. And that’s if they get the build back on schedule? As the North stand isn’t close to local residents and houses like the South stand is, there shouldn’t be a problem. The new capacity could stay within the already approved capacity.

My thoughts keep on going back to this very important point.

I have been told on good authority City want to create a ‘proper home end’. Creating a 3 tiered North stand identical to the 3 tiered South stand is ‘not a proper home end’.
Can you save me scrolling back - what was the revised capacity approved previously?
Thanks

It’s probably reading today’s announcement yourself as it’s all in there.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the ‘home end’ just ends up being tier 1 safe standing as has been mentioned on here.
If it does end up just being that I will be extremely disappointed. It would never work anyway, we already have that in the SS and I don't see the noisy people from there moving for just the same thing but the other end. I think it would end up with the noisy people split up across two safe standing sections at opposite ends which would be even worse.

Found the full planning application. Feel free to scroll through it. Tons of info. Link below.

The current Etihad capacity is 53,400.(from the OS) Adding 6,250 seats approved in the original South stand and North stand planning application would take the Etihad stadium capacity to 59,650 seats. 350 seats short of a 60,000 capacity.

The club is ambiguous in it’s wording. WHICH COULD, not, WHICH WILL.

The feasibility studies consider several connected elements, central to which is an expanded North Stand, which could increase capacity of the Etihad Stadium to over 60,000.

If the club sticks with the original South and North stand expansion plans, the capacity of the Etihad will not be over 60,000. (I stand corrected on that)

Another interesting line. Concepts. More than one?

Fans and the local community will be invited to share their priorities and feedback on concepts in early 2023.

From the planning applocation.

Alterations to the Etihad Stadium, including increasing the overall height of the South and North stands and associated elevational alterations, to allow an increase each stand capacity by up to 6,250 seats respectively and up to 2,000 additional pitch side seats creating a total match day capacity of up to 62,170 seats (from 47,670), expansions of concourse facilities, alteration to public realm including changes to car parking layout, landscaping and boundary treatments and associated infrastructure

Models of the expanded Etihad stadium don’t come much better than this.

More pictures and info via the link

Creating the Etihad Model

This model was commissioned in March 2016 and completed in early February 2018. It took an estimated 2000 man hours to research and build during this period. The client and I had met previously and over the course of this commission become good friends.

In 2015 the Etihad stadium had just been expanded, adding a third level to the south stand, taking the capacity from 47,400 to 55,097. The brief for this commission after much consultation was to look to the future and incorporate the addition of the proposed third level to the north stand as well, taking the capacity to 61,000. So this model would be a glimpse into the stadiums future.

We didn't get to speak to them directly during the time we had the working group but previous discussions had been fruitless. However those had been based on putting more trams on the network, which they couldn't do.

I suggested just taking Piccadilly bound trams a few stops further, to the Etihad, for an hour before games, and vice versa after. Or just running a couple as shuttle services. Or something else that increased the team frequency for limited periods before & after games. I put that in writing as part of the discussions but have no idea if it got any further.
I complained to them a few seasons ago following my wife getting a crush injury on an Ashton bound tram. I ended up speaking to a very plausible operations manager who assured me that within 6 months the improvement plans they had in place would make a real difference. Yeah right. How the hell are people going to be persuaded to get off the roads when the tram offers such an abysmal option after the game.

Especially if the stay included parking
That’s a must. My ideal is to stay at the campus, park at the campus, have a variety of options to eat from cheap street food to restaurant quality. Ultimately there has to be more than one hotel within walking distance. Using the Glasgow hydro as an example, there are at least six hotels within five minutes walk and I hope that the new arena will attract as many. Hotel pricing should be competetive. If Glasgow is anything to go by the hotel rooms have very dynamic pricing and god help us when a match clashes with a headliner at the Arena.

We were told that it would definitely exceed 60,000, they were quite firm about that!

I don't get this idea that having a big 2nd tier or even a single tier will affect the atmosphere. Replacing the roof would have more effect IMO, mirroring the SS roof and preferably replacing E & W roofs at the same time.

You don’t think having 8,000 people in one designated home area would make any difference?

Th south stand is completely seperated by corporate sections and away fans. Placement and numbers of fans can make a huge difference to noise levels.

We are also one of the only clubs without a home end, which i find a complete missed opportunity. If we want the best ground in England, you’d want that

Hence why I don’t think the North stand will mirror the South stand. As I’ve posted, if that happened the Etihad capacity would be under 60,000.

I think the club will present more then 1 option for the North stand expansion to the fans.
Did it reduce from 55k for more advertising boards?
