It's very true. There is a type if leaching of of the good standing of the military that really pisses me off. The Captain Tom thing was a classic example. It's the tabloid media that encourages the over the top military adulation. You see it in the US as well. Weird right wing fetishism where every one who has served has to be described as a hero irrespective. I know a lot if people in the military, many have normal jobs. Cooks, drivers accountants etc.The media and hangers on i agree about, but the guys and girls serving our country and those who served deserve respect.
Some paid the ultimate price of freedom while training to deter Russia from doing the very thing it has now been able to do following years of political ineptitude and defence cuts. Thankfully during the cold war days our professionalism and dedication kept peace in Europe.
