Best of his generation for sure

It’s impossible to determine the greatest of all time, because there’s so many factors involved like training methods, advance sport science and nutrition, boots, balls, playing surfaces, today being an almost noncontact sport, among many other things. So every era was different and todays era probably serves itself to more longevity too.

All you can be is the best of your time and he has been

What I found amusing was the list at the end which showed all the top World Cup goalscorers. His name wasn't even there. Mbappe has only been in two and made the list.
Should Mbappé not get injured, he will probably be breaking that record in the next World Cup

Full credit to him, he has now played in two World Cup finals and scored five goals in the finals in total. won one of them too. All by the age of 23. There should be no questions if he can deliver on the biggest stage.

It's desperate how anyone can suggest he isn't the greatest of all time. He's been the best player in the world for almost two decades. Nobody else has sustained the same levels of greatness for that length of time. His individual moments of brilliance; the solo goals, the mazy dribbles, are inexhaustible; you could find a day's worth of footage on YouTube. His passing ability is equal to that of the greatest playmakers. His first touch is unparalleled. His attitude on and off the pitch has been impeccable. On top of all that, he's won everything there is to win, culminating in him finally inspiring his national team to football's most coveted prize.

The Greatest. It's an honour to say I've watched him from start to finish.

I just asked my dad this , his instant reply was Pele

its hard to judge players that you never really saw play

but Pele must have been some player if he was better than Messi

Let’s be honest though, how many games have people actually seen Pelé play?

I doubt a single Santos game was ever shown on TV outside of Brazil. Most games back then were not even recorded. Then there’s a handful of games from World Cup footage.

Not saying he wasn’t great or a pioneer, but I think most people that instantly say Pele are basing that on a lot of sentiment and just because it’s the stock answer many give. 99.9% of people outside of Brazil probably haven’t seen 10 full games where Pele played.

But then I guess that works two ways and we might have missed a lot of great stuff Pele did.

That’s why it’s not really worth comparing different eras.

If Messi never scored a single goal, he’d have been the best playmaker in the world.
