Ronaldo ran him close over recent years for sure
And of course Maradonna, Pele etc can be argued
But Messi for me, his ridiculous scoring record and assists, consistently performing and his skill level, superlatives go on forever
It’s silly that you have to win a WC to be classed as the greatest - he was always the greatest long before this match

Of course he is. Has been for a long time. Been a joy to be living in the era he played and a privilege to have seen him in the flesh, even if he was ripping my team apart at the time.
He had everything and whilst no doubt on the natural wane that you'd expect from a player his age, he's still probably the best player in the world today.
Don't know why his move to us never happened but I'm gutted it never did.
Don't think we will see another like him in my lifetime and anyone who posts things like "I don't like Messi" might as well just say "I don't like football.

He was the best ever around a decade ago. He’s just carried Argentina to a World Cup and very nearly did the same in 2014. It’s not about what he’s won for me, just watching him play in almost any game over the years makes me think he’s the best ever. Genius.
