Never feel the need to select just one "best ever" of anything- same with films, albums, beers.

Just have a top table reserved for the greatest players of different eras and positions.

That’s it I’m buying his shirt with name on
Already have one and it's very fucking rare I get names on shirts. Only City ones I have with a name on it are Silva (Dave), Zaba and Aguero, although I'm thinking about getting one with Kev's name.

Ronaldo will turn up in a zimmer frame trying to win the WC now. Can see him being in the squad for 2026 making random sub appearances.

For myself he has been the best there ever was for some time. He made a great team better in the Barca of the late 00's, something very few in the game could have done, if any. He held them up long after the rest of the greats of that team had retired or moved on or started to decline in ability. Not that they were crap but he gave them that top level status largely due to his own efforts when the replacements were less than the players they replaced. He also held that standard for basically his entire career.

Pele, Maradona and Messi in any order are the greatest.

Pele perhaps the biggest and most athletic of the lot. Pele was a better header of the ball. His leap and ability to hang in the air was amazing. See first goal in 1970 world cup final.

I can’t even get a messi shirt now as sold out! Lol still I’m going to wait Shame it’s not a city shirt with messi on

A lot depends exactly what you mean by greatest. Is it finest at their peak finest over a career, finest by statistics ,most aesthetically pleasing etc.
I think of it as being a form of football that captures the imagination appears to be far above the rest of the era and wins the games big prizes.
I first really followed football at the end of Pele's brilliant career , he certainly did all of the above.Maradona and Messi for me are actually very difficult to separate at their peak they were both just jaw droppingly brilliant.

Their eras were slightly different and Maradona had to cope with more brutal defenders and poor pitches than Messi, but Messi had to surpass a far higher standard of fellow footballer to excel than Maradona.
Personally I would give it to Messi on longevity grounds but wouldn't take serious issue with someone thinking Maradona edged it and don't really have the full knowledge to argue against Pele.
The one thing I can't take seriously is people who bring Ronaldo into the conversation.

Probably, but I would say it with absolute certainty had he joined City and won the Premier League rather than retired early in the farmers league!

I want him more now than I ever have. Give us a season Lionel.

Fortunate to have seen Pele dictate a game on a number of occasions. Don't get me wrong, Messi is great, but Pele did it in a few tournaments. There is a classic goal of his at Goodison, where someone tried to take his leg off at the hip, and he still scored. I think it's unfair to judge. Just appreciate him and celebrate his career.

I respect the opinions of others but I really can't understand how this is even a discussion. How can Messi, the greatest to ever play the game, be compared to Maradona? How can you compare a player with a career of 15-16 years at the top of the top, compared to Maradona who gave 4-5 really good seasons in his career. Messi has more goals, more assists, many more team titles and now finally a World Cup.
It's a shame we didn't get to see him at City

Fair play to him. Always strives to be the best and like Messi has given joy to millions over the years - there was times he was ahead of Messi for me, but these final few years has really swung it for Messi.

No coach is taking a 42 year old primadona.

Did you miss 2014 where he won the golden ball and was a finalist?

4-5 good years? Not sure about that. His international career alone spanned 17 years and 91 caps.
