Sorry to be a pain in the bollocks can anyone tell me if you need a satellite box/receiver to connect to a lg smart tv,or can you connect the cables straight to the TV,have tried checking online but it’s all a bit vague some saying some LG tv’s have freesat built in I can’t make head nor tail of it if mine is compatible for this ..

Any particular reason you need free sat rather than freeview

I don't have an LG but do have a Sony with "Freesat" and it's terrible to navigate, it's not Freesat(R) it's free sat(ellite), so the TV guide is very basic (now and next) and all over the place, no features like catch up players etc, so I'd check it does everything you need otherwise you may end up buying a satellite set top box anyway.

i've had exactly the same issue - supposedly the tv is compatible, but i can't get it to tune - have had to stick with a freesat box

Did you have sky q and got rid ?
Yeah, initially - then I switched to a Freesat box. Then got a new LG tv which has got in-built satellite tuning - but won't work with the existing dish set up, which is a bit annoying. So I still have to use the separate Freesat box connected to tv.

Was doing a bit of digging on this the Sky Q is different you can’t plug cables into a tv with satellite built in unless it’s a 4k freesat, the LNB needs to be changed for any other non 4k freesat box or that’s what I’ve been lead to believe..

Is the correct answer. They need either a Sky HD compatible LNB or a hybrid one that supports both HD & Q systems (which would solve any issues in the future).

Yeah spot on,I’ve ditched my sky Q but want at least some sort of channel line up of sorts for the mrs, seems my LG has the built in freesat just a matter of changing the LNB on the dish and hopefully sorted .
