Never seen a player as rusty
Huge shoes to fill though in the Rodri position
Very strange transfer for all concerned
Doesn’t offer anywhere near for the ball as Rodri does, maybe we are spoilt as it’s the same for Rice when he plays for England

I am interested to know where you two are coming from? I must have been watching a different game. I thought he was solid when he came on and added a bit of spice back into midfield as Rodri clearly looked tired.

Like I said, it’s a huge task to look anything like Rodri who has been a constant. Will be very interesting to see Phillips continue to get fitter and actually start a game. Will Pep trust him or will Rodri still have to be next to him

Rodri can't play in every game so we need KP to get upto speed asap, Obviously not match fit, but Pep has already confirmed Phillips will play on Wednesday so 90 mins (hopefully) under his belt that will do him the world of good.

I think Pep has already said that Phillips is starting on Wednesday? I know where you are coming from, but I also don't think Rodri has filled Fernandinho's boots yet :)

Harsh. Thought he did well when he came on. And it’s not a strange transfer as it’s impossible for Rodri to play 70+ games a season. We have all been frustrated with his fitness issues but let’s give him a chance now.

I would say that Rodri has proved himself and filled Dinho boots. It’s strange that they both played the same position but are very different.
The current teams heartbeat centres around Rodri and since he came in to replace Dinho we have played a more measured type of game.
When Dinho was at his best the team played different with quicker wing play which at times left us vulnerable to the counter which Dinho quickly or cynically stopped. Dinho was also a total leader with Vinny when he played

It was only his first game back so he’s bound to be a bit rusty.
From what I saw he generally played alright, he made himself available and his passing was really impressive.
Hopefully his injuries are behind him because as he gets fitter, I think he’ll play an important role for us.

I think Rodri is great in his role and I’m even more astounded that Enrique used him as a defender at the World Cup . More of a match winner than busquets

Wow, that's harsh. Rodri is a completely different player to Fern but just as important and influential.

I don't see where the positive comments are coming from just yet, replaced Rodders yesterday and was out of position and ahead of where he should be for most of the time he was on the pitch. He will hopefully come good and has a decent range of passing but defo an odd signing and I doubt will ever be a good replacement for Rodri.

I doubt Phillips will start looking capable for about 12 months. That's just how it goes with a DM in Pep's side. Rodri didn't look a patch on Fernandinho and the number of threads looking at alternatives grew and grew. But then it clicked and he has become an absolute monster in terms of reading the game, controlling our play and positioning. Phillips will be able to do a job in there, but it will take a lot of minutes before he's fully aware of his positioning and role in the side.

I thought he looked very good ..he got in a few good tackles..broke up Chelsea play and his passing was good..
He needs a few games to get fully integrated in the team but he's a decent player..
Not many players would be good enough to replace Rod to be honest
