United (A) | Post Match Thread

It's what happens when our approach to games is passive and trying to manage it with minimal risks.

Teams just try to stay in the game and know we don't create too much, if they can force our passing game sideways.

Then you have results like Everton and United, providing perfect opportunities for dodgy ref decisions into the mix.

I'm so disappointed with people like Phil and Bernie, in particular.

Players I love, but are selling themselves and us way short right now.

Bernie was abysmal and Phil ignored, whatever the instruction was, Jack certainly wasn't impacted by it?

We miss Stones and Dias so much.

I feel so sorry for Haaland, he is doing everything to get involved, but the time must come where we adapt to him or he will lose the joy of being here pretty rapidly, feeding on scraps.

Perhaps ditch the need for two wide men stretching the pitch as wide as possible, to try and create the overloads, and go with an extra man in the centre. It's clear why Bellingham is wanted for the engine room.

Never thought I would ever say this, but would sell Bernie this window and try to get someone else in at left back and put Cancelo as the extra man in midfield?

By the way, Rodri is the best midfielder of his type in the entire world right now.

Something else I never thought was possible from him.

Immense and first name on the team sheet.

We are looking stale, similar to Liverpool, but with the resources to do something about that quickly.
Normally I'd be quite critical of our approach but for the majority yesterday it worked.

Once we scored we starved United of the ball. The second half was a masterclass in terms of how to dominate the ball and pick our moment.

We lost yesterday due a genuinely appalling decision.

In regards to Foden, I think now is the time to play him alongside Kev in the middle. His energy and ability to run through the midfield would help us shift opposition players around and make space for Haaland.

I'd love the club to sign a player in January, the club and squad need a lift

We were cheated, plain and simple, we were fucking cheated. On another note I woke up this morning feeling rough and checked my bank account and there was a 21 quid pin transaction from Tesco express which I can’t remember making. Checked in my cupboard and there’s two pot noodles, rich teas, midget gems, pringles and a bottle of wine which thankfully was unopened.

Sorry mate you are wrong Rashford has impacted on the play and interfered with it even though he didn't touch the ball every defender and Ederson were focused on him and Ederson thought he was going to shoot. He's offside and it's a terrible decision.

The grey area of the rules says different.

BTW.....i'll try and make it clear again,i agree,i thought it was a terrible decision too.

I’ve just watched that part of MOTD and they did highlight a few runs and had a chat about us not looking to play him in, I also know there were other examples I remembered from the game that weren’t shown so there were definitely plenty. Let’s move on from that one though.

No signs currently of us opening the chequebook though this month, buying a decent left footed left back should be an absolute priority and fucking Gomez off to a CFG club.

I don't think they will buy in the window, which is frustrating. A proper left back is must. I'd buy a right winger too if one of suitable quality could be sourced; although I hope Riyad is going to find his best form in the 2nd half of the season. He is not right footed though...

Take Rashford out of the picture and Ederson is not looking that way. In fact, Ederson or Akanji get to that well before Fernandez.

That photo begs the question, how the fuck fernandes reach the ball before akanji? Akanji is 2 yards from the ball as opposed to 8 for akanji.
The answer is because rashford influenced defenders reactions… but he wasnt interfering with play?

I still can't understand the refs take on it
After the linesman has flagged for offside the only conversation he's had with the linesman was did he touch the ball. Now we all know that you don't have to touch it to be offside. So the only way for the ref to know if he was interfering with any player was to go to the screen and look at the different angles
So for me this ref doesn't know the offside rules or he just ignored them
I think it’s something else … Not difficult to guess what ..

On the other hand maybe Pep's basic model is no longer workable. Hard to know yet really but most teams we play now seem to be easily able to frustrate us.
Alternatively a serious of difficult seasons culminating in last years epic battle with the dippers added to a crazy World Cup has left the players physically and mentally below par.

I don't beleive Pep's basic model is not workable but you have to adapt to how you apply it as team's adapt to you. And Pep has adapted his model at Bayern and more than once at City. We need the next evolution and that may require time.

I'm absolutley certain the players are a bit jaded after their exertions of the last few seasons. One reason why a refresh of peronnel may be required.

If rashford is out of the picture like in this pic Eddie would already have control of the ball (his starting pos was out of his area and he takes steps back to cover the angle iirc) and Fernandes wouldn't even have started running for it.

Quite damming really, Eddie clearly only has eyes for Saint Fishfinger and he or Akanji would have cleared the ball before the goofy **** got anywhere near it.

How can he come to that conclusion without going to the screen to watch a replay ? Surely if the lino flags he goes off that ? What was vars involvement ? If not checking the offside ? If that's the case just do away with linos as what's the point ?
It's annoying mate but you're missing the point. Have a look above at Lovebitesandeverything's reply to Dirty Harry above. page 229.

As the dust is settling I think we need to give the team a break. They have been at 100% for years inc pep. They are physically & mentally exhausted.

Mistakes are being made
Energy is down
Few new players needed.

Top 4 finish
Good Champs league run
Fa cup

All I ask for this season.

I agree with you on this.....when i read the rules and watch the goal and if Im reffing that game then I disallow the goal (without bias)...however the rules allow the ref to allow the goal which is what ive said previously.

The rules also allow the ref to disallow the goal and there is only one correct decision if you understand football nad how to interpret rules. The officals either disn't or are as bent as the conspiracy theorists would have you believe. either way it was a scandalous decision.

What will be interesting to see is if guidance on offside is amended immediately or in the summer.
