What has the UK become under the far right influence?

unrelated, but just thought now, can I have my CDs back please pal. :)

:o

Has it been almost 15 years, mate?

Good lord!! I knew, ages ago, that I had something, but couldn't remember what!

I have moved about 3 times, had a marriage, 2 kids and a virtual divorce since I had them, so they'll be in a box, somewhere!

Remind me what I had and I'll try and locate them!!

The problem with radio phone-ins (and the BBC are among the worst culprits here) is that they rarely seek to find common ground, balanced or nuanced views, or dispel myths or cliches. Instead they try to find two extremes. And not just for phone-ins. They do it when getting two "experts" to talk about a subject.

I finally stopped listening to BBC Five Live when they were debating an economics topic in the news, and instead of presenting a truly balanced argument, so you could maybe learn something, they. had an extreme left wing economist and one from a libertarian, ultra-right wing 'think-tank'. That's their idea of 'balance' these days.
The current BBC are a result of promoting people far above their abilities and pandering to just about every minority agenda going and ignoring the vast majority of the population -who are in reality pretty rational. The BBC are neither these days -hence the problem.

It was a classical music box set, about 20 CDs I think. I am not arsed really pal but if you do find them I wouldnt mind having them back,

To be fair all the heavy weights across BBC News and radio have left in droves - they get better paid sometimes do fewer hours and don't have bell ends arguing they are getting paid too much though in many cases - like Marr - he gets way more off LBC than he did off the BBC on an "hourly" basis. The clowns that have complained will end up complaining that what is left is shit despite its what they wanted. Welcome to a world of Vicky Sparks guys = like Brexit they won.

Notice how they’re not accused of being biased by the government any more? 50 MEP’s invited on to question time in 10 years, every single one was anti EU. 45 UKIP (Farage), 3 Tories and 2 UKIP.
Last week a question on immigration and the panel got the following time to answer.

Ruth Wishart. 30 seconds
Ian Hislop. 2 minutes
Lionel Shriver. 2 minutes
Stephen Kinnock. 3 minutes 30 seconds.
Robert Jenrick. TEN minutes.

Emily Maitliss has already confirmed that they could find at least 100 economists against Brexit for every one they found in support but, whenever they presented anything on it, there was always 1 of each in the interests of ‘balance’.

Keeping on with QT, last 2 years they’ve had 6 media people on from what might be termed the left and left of centre and 28 from the right and far right.
These right wingers normally from a Murdoch or Barclay owned newspaper/tv channel/radio channel, plus the Mail.

Rishi Sunak’s ex-boss and Conservative Party donor Richard Sharp appointed to the influential role of BBC chair. Sharp had zero media experience prior to his appointment, and there is ongoing concern over his decision to not declare his role in facilitating a loan of £800,000 to Boris Johnson, prior to his appointment.

The appointment of BBC director general Tim Davie, who stood as a councillor for the Conservative Party in 1993 and 1994 and was deputy chairman of the Hammersmith and Fulham Conservative Party in the 1990s.

The recent appointment of ex-GB News editorial director John McAndrew to the role of Director of BBC News programmes. And there are longstanding and significant concerns over the influence of former director of comms at No 10 for Theresa May, Robbie Gibb, a BBC non-executive director since 2021, who helped found GB News, and who sought to block Jess Brammar’s appointment to a role overseeing BBC News channels.

It’s rotten to the core and now acts primarily to facilitate this awful government, which is a tragedy.

Gonna bob to my Old Queen's in the next couple of weeks, so I will have a look there.

I hope she hasn't moved to place 'x', 'y' or 'z', cos that's a LOT of places in her Victorian house!!

Used to play them to my baby in the womb, so they were of great use! I'm, extremely thankful to you for that.

I will have a good look, I promise you.

Well it ain’t Spain or Italy that’s for sure………..drugs and stabbings galore are now the order of the day whilst MP’s still eat and drink at the publics expense with their subsidised meals whilst the rest of us make do with supermarket or petrol station meal deals and Greggs butties…….

Yeah, OK, but you're just a lefty loving commie coming out with that nonsense:)

The thing to bear in mind is mainstrem media and TV in the UK now is primarily watched and read by the elderly, and they are, by and large, unsympathetic twats holding extreme right wing views with no empathy for those less fortunate than themselves.

It's well known that as people age, they turn to the right, and that's been the case in the UK for generations. 75% of the population aged over 60 vote for the tories, and the reinforcement the BBC is a woke loving left wing organistation is bolstered by the crap they are reading on a daily basis in their right wing papers. They don't want to hear criticism of a woeful government, they want to hear and read viewpoints that engage and agree with their view of the world, and the fact the BBC has been existentially threatened by a government that detests criticism of any sort is of no interest to them.

It doesn't matter how balanced the BBC is, the extreme right will always call them out because balance isn't in their interests. The BBC are now nothing more than puppies when it comes down to real analysis regarding the problems the country is facing, and their lackluster questions are far too comfortable for bullshitting right wing tory MP's to answer. They should be being grilled regarding the state of public services at the moment, but they give them an easy ride and it frustrates the hell out of me when I hear timidity of the questions.

It is a tragedy they have been reduced to that level of obsequiousness. I fully concur with your thoughts on that, but sadly, giving a true picture of what is happening and why doesn't really seem matter in the world today,

Headlines rule, and any sort of critical analysis is dismissed as lefty rubbish by a media hellbent on promoting a far right agenda that will ultimately benefit nobody but the very rich.

I honestly think one of the problems is that the definition of 'expert' nowadays is someone with a large Twitter following who tweets about the topic. And you frequently get a large Twitter following by being extreme, unreasonable, and attacking the opposing view.

You are George Orwell and I claim my 5 pounds.
(OK, he didn't have much to say about City.)
Although, he was a great admirer of HG Wells and he did write Homage to Catalonia, so perhaps he knew about City’s destiny long before any of us……
He also lived in Paris and London as a young man, famously the setting for A Tale of Two Cities, which we’ve definitely experienced since I first saw them in 1973!

its just a mouthpiece of the current rotten government. I far prefer LBC irrespective of the presenter albeit my political views are aligned pretty much to James O'Brien I don't mind listening to Ferrari or Shelagh Fogerty.

I listen to lbc nowadays. Most of what they say resonates worth me, but not all of it. I have a lot of time for James Obrien in particular though.

But when I don't agree with what he's saying, iv noticed his tactics (usually in phone ins) is exactly the same as the right wing commentators ... steer the conversation down a dead end where only his pov can be the correct one... Its completely annoying and nowhere near finding the truth or a common ground. So fucking bored of it, so bored of all this polemisation (I hope that's a word, I learnt it on here the other day).

The world is crying out for someone who isn't extreme left or right but wants find common ground, and listens and takes on board all sides of the argument because as we all know the truth, the answers, are always somewhere in the middle.

Right back to fixing my parquet floor!

Spot on. Whenever I'm unfortunate enough to be within earshot of Jeremy Vine's call-in show I immediately turn it off. Suits the establishment to have the plebs arguing with each other on the radio about "them transgenders you see about nowadays" instead of getting together and realising we've all got loads in common.
