The Conservative Party

That fuck awful Coffey just spouted the same nonsense in the commons.
Waffling some crap about turnips instead of tomatoes or something

I’d add it as a link if I could be arsed to search for it again.

It’s 2023, we should not be saying we should be grateful for things that were easily accessible 20 odd years ago.

The gaslighting never ends from them

TBF it’s a serious conversation. We can’t say on one hand we want to save the environment and on the other hand say we want cheap tomatoes to travel a 1000 miles to our plate or be forced grown consuming energy. This isn’t about being grateful but being honest at what cost.

Agree buddy.

But it’s Coffey saying this stuff, and she doesn’t give a fuck about the environment.

Now that you’re bringing saving the environment into the discussion, how does that square with leaving a trading bloc on our doorstep and trying to join one in the Pacific to make up for the downturn in exports.

You might be right that the extra cost due to Brexit is the most insignificant issue, however the unpredictable customs delays due to the extra Brexit red tape certainly are a significant factor for produce that deteriorates if it is not delivered when expected.

That’s absolutely true and another cost/delay that makes shipping it to the UK less appealing. Where there is under supply unless we in the UK are prepared to pay a huge premium it makes perfect sense for producers to sell into the easiest of markets. And the UK is certainly at the bottom of that list for EU producers due to Brexit red tape

I don’t want to sidestep your point as it’s a very fair question but as soon as we start down the road of “what about” we get nothing discussed.

can you really not work it out? Are you mince? A couple of years ago Ireland opened a ferry between them and the EU thus cutting out the UK as their landbridge - hence Hollyhead ferry port is now struggling coz no trucks are going through there - as a member state they have zero issues in importing from other member states.

Some people need more than photo id before they are allowed to vote.

This is THE determining factor - produce from southern Spain does not have to cross any sea to be sold in any one of the other 26 states they are still in a trading bloc with.

And you reckon I’m mince?

It would get him out of the dystopian nightmare that is the Tory Party where he is and into a job dealing with stuff he actually likes

Also has to be asked is Ferrari the LBC Alan Brazil? Colour of that fucking face - he must take industrial quantities of blood pressure tablets

Christ! Nick, did you eat all the tomatoes?!

The real problem is you’re all just spoiled for choice….

I don't see what the problem is with what she says. Eating what's in season in any one place is the global norm. Pollution from transporting food (by air or in ships) is an issue.

And is it assumed she was was a Brexity farmer? Or is it mostly Brexiters trying to paint her as some latest incarnation of Pret woman?

The only sure thing is that Brexit has increased food imports, decreased food security, and exported jobs (Home Office still refusing visas for abattoir workers so carcasses are going to the EU for processing and packaging, along with some British growers moving production to the countries from where we used to get the seasonal labour).

Funny but only technically correct as the weather isn’t the main issue and Brexit is the least of the problems, in fact largely insignificant. Issues are:

1. Northern European producers didn’t plant out anywhere near their normal levels without guaranteed returns with inflated input costs. They gambled they would get paid more for producing less. That gamble failed.

2. Transportation costs are sky high. We have a sea separating us to the rest of mainland Europe. If supermarkets were prepared to pay for this extra cost and then some we’d have stock a plenty. Those costs would need to be paid by us, the consumers. Would we really be happy paying? Supermarkets presumed not and won’t gamble on paying significantly more for perishable items with a short shelf life. Republic of Ireland is also struggling with shortages due to these same issues of having a sea border.

3. Weather.

4. There is an extra cost as a result of Brexit with bureaucracy but that’s the most insignificant part. In fact barely worth mentioning.

Will we ever get to the point where Brexit is a benefit in any given situation?

Ok with the exception of one member state that is still managing just fine anyway but Brexit Ultra's who cannot accept one scintilla of an error ...........................................

They aren’t managing just fine though. That one member state, who is also an island this geographically similar to UK, are struggling with the same issues of lack lf supply in fresh fruit and veg.

Brexit ultras? Have a word with yourself. You love a bit of hyperbole.

Hope she suffers the inevitable fate in her business - her business does not deserve to survive when she shows that level of contempt for people who are ultimately her customers - I bet she is a farmer who voted Leave won't admit the mistake and considers we just need to believe more

What a spiteful little man you are.
