It sounds like Sunak is making some progress.
From a Northern Ireland perspective, thats pretty encouraging...not really a fan of Sunak, but that reads quite well.
I think the protocol is a great opportunity for us here...we've always been that wee country up at the top left, but not "in" the UK.
I personally dont really mirror the DUPs concerns about being cut off, and there being a border in the sea...but i suppose i accept their point of view, its important to them....but they cant hold this country to ransom, its crumbling all around us.
Yes negotiate with the DUP (and now ERG), but if there are concessions to them then Sunak needs to stand the fuck up and make them get back to doing their job, or allow (make) our devolved government to get up and running again.

thats my take on it. Its an opportunity for Sunak to grow some and get this deal done. For NI once this is agreed surely its an advantage over the rest of the UK?

I dunno about advantage over the rest of the UK...we have plenty of shit going against us too :-)

Cant we see it as an advantage to all of the UK? Afterall, we are part of the UK too arent we? Or is NI just some wee country up to the top left? ;-)

Its awful....another reminder that these scumbags are still around and need very little (nothing) to kick off. I still believe the direction of Brexit and the NI Protocol will influence the actions of paramilitaries on both/all sides

It appears he is still alive...hopefully he'll pull through

Appalling. In Omagh of all places too, they've had more than their fair share of tragedy. Hopefully he pulls through with no lasting damage.

Now now. You know I don’t think that. ;-) Don’t you have an advantage over the rest of the Uk trading with the EU? I sometimes wonder about moving to your part of the world.

Of course a settled agreement that protect the nIP is good for all of us.

:-) glad you got the joke :-)

I think its that we have opportunity for business, production etc as a result of the Protocol. A half way house between GB and the EU.. so ultimately, good for us all

Govt to give the DUP a veto on the NI Protocol deal. Think we have seen this movie before. Source @reuters.

May as well just chuck it in the bin now then, they've only got a one word vocabulary after all. Why should they get a veto on it? They're not the biggest political party in Northern Ireland or even the only unionist party after all.

It‘s more about internal Tory politics and less to do with NI. If the DUP veto it the Govt will claim they listened to the people of NI - well, 30% of them anyway. And if by some miracle the DUP give it the green light (hah!), then it heads off the ERG mob.

Basically, NI like the rest of the UK, are being held hostage by around 30% of the electorate and nothing will change as the Tory support is firmly embedded in that 30%.

which is exactly why talk of a return is such pie in the sky for the moment. We will have to demonstrate that we have completely binned off that fringe forever - why would 27 member states want to enter into protracted negotiations with us only for Brexit to resurface 5 years later. Before we have a sit down we will have to show that will never happen - going to PR in the GE system may be a start then introducing legislation making it clear and beyond doubt the UK will never have a binding referendum on anything in future it can only be indicative and when one is held it cannot be won 61% to 49% - there would have to be a certain level of voter turn out and a bar of size of win established to make it work

There was a reason that Starmer asked that the Commons get a vote on any deal.
Lots of Conservatives are likely to end up voting against the deal.
Which is of course why Sunak ducked the question and won't put it to a vote.

Only way out of this shit is for the whole of the uk to rejoin Europe. Blame Northern Ireland stating the troubles might start up again. Free goal for anyone brave enough to stick their head above the parapet. Nothing will change here for at least another 50-100 years. Still got the same twats in charge. It’s been bliss having the civil servants run the place and not the usual self serving wankers.

The way to get the DUP back in the Northern Government is to stop paying them until they start doing their jobs again. Nowhere else can you refuse to do your job and still get paid.

There is another way.
