The BBC | Tim Davie resigns as Director General over Trump documentary edit (p 187)

Look peeps, it simple...

Had Linekar said this whilst employed by only Sky, BT Sport etc, they'd be no issue.

Buuuuuuuuuut, he IS employed by the BBC, a taxpayer funded institution that expects all its representatives, in every form of media, to be impartial. Its no different to bringing the company you work for into disrepute for comments made on social media. Of course he's entitled to his opinion, but not whilst employed by an impartial, taxpayer funded institution.

Agree or disagree with his comments makes no difference here. He is representing the BBC, which is not meant to have any opinion for or against due to the nature of how it is funded, otherwise the 'impartial BBC' would be accused and seen as siding with a particular point of view, which it's not allowed to. He's broken that commitment and so is being "spoken to".

If anyone has any issues with any BBC representative for their comments, Kuenssberg, Bruce, et al, you have to make those complaints, not expect the BBC to take action themselves. And remember, there are no 'free speech laws' in the UK.
Would that be the same impartial BBC whose chair is the Tory donor Richard Sharp?

So complain about them. Highlight the comments, gain enough complaints (100,000 usually does the trick) to have an MP raise the issue with the BBC Director General and the BBC will then take action.

That's all that's happened here.
That is horseshit and you know it.

They've taken him off air for one reason and one reason only - the Tories wanted it.

It's obviously not that simple because you are wrong.
Nice rebuttal.

The BBC are thinking about their funding, nothing more. They aren't arsed about Gary's comments. They ARE arsed that some Conservative MP's are raising a stink and don't want their funding cut. Coupled with the petition, they have had to be seen to address the issue.

Unless you can offer some other reason? I await with baited breath for your reasoned response.

There are enough lady presenters to fill the spots of the old boys throwing a tantrum.

And then you'll have the old boys refusing to watch women commentators on a man's game throwing tantrums.

I'll raise you:

Jesus, imagine.

It could be worse....

Yeah, because the Tories are in government and in charge of the BBC funding, something they don't want to see reduced which the Tories have the power to do so.

It isn't rocket science. However, if enough people complained and had MP's raise issues about comments made by OTHER BBC representatives/presenters, the same result would likely occur.

The great thing about the BBC argument is always so amusing; The left believe the BBC is too far-right Tory, and the right believe the BBC is too far-left liberal. I just don't think anybody should be forced to pay for it.

So you're accepting the tories are in favour of stopping freedom of speech. It's fucking disgusting.
Nope. The BBC have acted upon the whims of complaints raised by MP's made by one of their representatives which has an agreement in place to be impartial in all forms of media whilst in their employ, whose wages are paid for by the taxpayer that expect such impartiality.

I'm guessing you're of the "BBC are far-right Tory enablers" persuasion?

Alastair Campbell summed it up perfectly yesterday, the BBC want impartiality to go one way.

That’s why conservative celebrities employed by the BBC can say what they want, Fiona Bruce can cut off any left leaning guest on QT, the director can facilitate a loan to Boris Johnson and donate £400k to the tories, Sunak and May staffer can walk into executive roles at the BBC, but Gary Lineker must be silenced, and David Attenborough episodes about destroying the environment can’t air for fear they might upset the Conservative Party.

No.

Really from who? The BBC have just said he broke impartiality guidelines , t looks very much like he's lost his job because of his own stupidity and arrogance. Tbh I can't stand him on MOTD. So I am a little biased.

It's the double standards that is annoying. Agree with the Government or facilitate a private loan for the Prime Minister of this government and no one is sacked. Criticise the Government however...
