The BBC | Tim Davie resigns as Director General over Trump documentary edit (p 187)

Because he condemns racism while indulging in casual anti-semitism by minimising the evil of the Nazi regime and holocaust. Andrew Bridgen was suspended from the Conservative Party for the same thing recently.

I guess you don’t actually know what he said.

I think they misjudged the public mood on this massively, and it’s been pretty reassuring to see. For all the faults with this country, I like to think that there is still an empathy and decency amongst a lot of the population. It’s another hugely damaging episode for the BBC and government though. They’ve handled this abysmally.

Happy to see a proper controlled and managed asylum system, particularly helping communities where we have historical connections like Hong Kong. Albanian is a safe country, and shouldn’t be a source of 17k per annum coming over on boats unless we have a badly flawed system. We need to remove the incentives for people to come on boats, it’s only a matter of time before there’s another incident where a large number die.

The way to remove the incentive was to not decimate the Border Force and Police when they brought in 'austerity' which the banks and their mates caused.
This 'incentive' you describe is not that. It may be an opportunity, but not one most sane people would take. The most desperate do, but they always did. It is just we never used to hear of it, because it is a very relatively minor issue. It has become a big issue because it deflects from the failings of a government who lied to people about immigration and demonised people, thereby securing a vote for a lie and nice future for themselves and yes I mean Gove and Johnson. And it excuses them decimating the public services that were there to deal with it. They demonised them too, very succesfully as well. Public sector v private sector...gold pensions...blah blah etc.
It is all bollocks

I become increasingly confused every day by the principles of those on the social right in this country.

“People these days are so afraid of offending people! Everybody is such a snowflake! People should just tell it like it is!”

“No, no, not like that. Somebody stop Gary Tweeting, he’s offending people in his microblogs *snivel*”

Very soft, aren’t they?

The mistake you made is assuming they have any.

Gaza for Prez.
Would look good on the side of a bus.
Would probably look better than this. I hate to be the grammar police, but come on. “Minster”, ffs.

It was her profile that mentioned she’d worked on the book, not that he’d worked there.
No, but the only chambers she was a member of was No5 iirc, and he never has been, and they practised in completely different area of law, so there’s absolutely no reason their paths would ever cross professionally. Unless it was before she was called to the bar, in which case she had no legal standing at that point, which again makes her claim to be both weird and misleading.

I don’t even see how riding on his coat tails would assist her professionally. His best selling book is about sexual entertainment venues. He’s also a far better lawyer than she’ll ever be.

Reminds me of this, it's been around and everyone's probably seen it before, but it's appropriate so...
