Aston Martin have a very good car. I know Alonso would be 3rd if it wasn't for Leclerc's penalty but this is exciting.

It is a shame that their number 2 driver is shite and has a seat because of who his dad is. This will cost them in the Conscructor's championship.

Lawrence Stroll is dragging that team forward with the people he is hiring from the car development side of things. However if they want to challenge the top three he needs to get someone better in than his son. The days of it being an expensive weekend father/son hobby are over and some conversations will need to happen.

Completely agree and well said.

‘Shite’ is harsh.

He’s in a funny position of being better than your average shite ‘pay driver’ but not quite good enough for a seat on merit. The kind of driver who would ordinarily get a season or two, fail to make much an impression either way and then end up being binned off to Formula E.

For some reason I can't take to him and there are better drivers, but he's not shite.

He did go up in my estimations a bit when he insisted on racing with two broken wrists and a broken toe after a pretty horrific bike crash. He could’ve taken the easy option and just fucked it off, but he didn’t. Fair play to the guy for that.

Bit like I said above - while he’s definitely not ‘shite’, he isn’t really *quite* good enough to be there on merit.

The Aston is clearly a great car, and Stroll will likely have his best season of his career. That said, even in this car, he's a 5th/6th place average.

Just throwing it out there as a thought, with no fact whatsoever.

There have been little tidbits put out about Hamilton's feelings about the car, his future commitment to Mercedes etc.

Lance Stroll has invested a substantial amount of time and money into Aston Martin and seeing signs of that paying off, with presumably more to come.

Lance Stroll is a successful businessman.

Would there be a possibility that Hamilton could join the team and take it to the next level? Alonso and Hamilton both in very competitive cars.

Would there be a cut-off point between loyalty to your son and hard cold business, even if it was for a couple of seasons...........or not a chance?

I have a feeling that Hamilton will "go home" for his last season.

Hamilton doesn't seem to be in a good place mentally at the moment, talking about the seeming lack of connection with the car as "miserable". Also, Didn't Wolff say during the week that Hamilton "could" leave in two years' time? Also, could the split with Angela Cullen after 7 years be a factor in his performances this season? I'd imagine that elite sportsmen like consistency in their professional lives.

It's those sort of comments I was picking up on Jim, perhaps unnecessarily, but not the sort of bites that would be expected from a Mercedes camp.

If he wants to win another world championship, then staying with Mercedes seems unlikely at present and the camp appears fractious.

To achieve that additional world championship, where would he go that would give him that opportunity, or will it be retirement, because I can't believe he will continue with his career as an also-ran.

My interest was with Stroll and where family loyalty and hard nosed business meet, if Hamilton was available.
