I’ve seen more nonsense in the last few days about attendances at City and Liverpool so I’ve dug out some analysis and posted an article that I hope will be useful to any City fan who has had enough of silly jibes from LFC.

Basically, City have had a higher average attendance than LIverpool for all but 5 of the past 20 years. In addition Liverpool’s lowest crowd each season has been lower than City’s for every season but 5.

Also, the 3 lowest PL crowds experienced by either club since 2003 are all for LFC games, not City’s.

I explain more but basically they’ve officially had over 10,000 ’empty seats’ for PL games. We have too, but we’ve not experienced a lower league crowd than LFC’s lowest in last 20 years. In any case we don’t go on about empty seats at Anfield but they do go on about that at the Etihad so I think facts are important.

Details:

Liverpool’s highest ever all time attendance wouldn’t make Citys all time top 20. @Gary James can you remember when this nonsense myth was created? I’ve supported City since the mid 80s and never heard this until around 2011-12. This empty seats tag was created by upset United supporters who had ran out of things to mock the club for after winning the Fa cup and they had to take their banner down.

It was when we started winning trophies before the we were the ‘loyalist fans in football’ - also something that other clubs could‘ve challenged. I notice the same sort of thing is starting to happen to Newcastle.

What about figures that cover % of ground filled, @Gary James ? I swear I saw a table a couple of years ago. City's ground was a percent or two fuller during a recent season.

This rings true. In the 90s rollercoaster ride we were praised for our support. But we “bought trophies “ so attack our lack of seat fillers from the far east or Oslo. Id rather an empty seat than some Twat from Indonesia on his laptop at Old Trafford.

I remember the dippers getting 32/33'000 one midweek game against Bolton(I think it was Bolton) around 2008/9 when they were still challenging for top 4. Funny how nothing was mentioned at the time. I think our lowest league crowd at the Etihad was 34/35000 in the Pearce dearth of goals season.

Why pay any attention to what people think about our attendance? We know the score. We understand why some games will be less attended than others. We know these silly pictures on social media are taken 1 minute after halftime, etc. Let it go.

They boycotted a lot of games when they wanted Hodgson gone. So much for that myth of Liverpool supporters never turning on managers or players.

Yes. The most hypocritical and sanctimonious set of cu ts you could ever wish ti meet. Also, look at some of their European Cup attendances in the early 80s. Low 20s a few times

Have a read of the article - it talks of these times and games:

I've just had a read. I was slightly out with the dipper crowd v Bolton. Great read though pal. I've bookmarked it :)

Way back on 30 March 1982, Liverpool - then the holders of the European Cup and on their way to yet another title win (their fifth in seven years) - had a home game against Birmingham City. They attracted a crowd of 24,224.

That same night, Sheffield United played a fourth division game at home to Bradford City and drew a bigger crowd. There were 24,593 at Bramall Lane that evening.
