Haaland Record Tracker

You have to respect the seasons Shearer and Cole had, I’ve just seen that they each had 13 assists in their 34 goal seasons.

Congratulations to Erling who seems to break a record every time he steps on the pitch! And at 22 there's every chance he'll get better still. We know how great he is now, but one thought that keeps coming back to me is what a great player Dixie Dean must have been as well.

He was obviously an amazing goal scorer but every goal back then is probably worth half what it is now.

Every fucker was playing a 2-2-6 formation and a 7-7 draw was considered a low scoring game.

So hard to compare eras that far apart. That record will surely never be beaten. But football was so different, some respects harder like more physical, worse pitches etc. but also a little easier for centre forwards, you can see some of his goals on YouTube that would be given as fouls against the keeper now, just barging right through them!

His goals per minute ratio is somehow even more impressive. Can you imagine how many he would be on if he plays virtually every minute like kane and salah. How many times has pep took him off after an hour in a game we are strolling and a few more look certain. Would love him to get to 40, just a different level and worth remembering this is thr worst haaland will ever be with us, it's only going to get better.

I think he will start to lose his pace in 10 years or so. I suppose we can ship him off to Madrid when that happens.

More recently, Nat Lofthouse barged Harry Gregg and the ball into the back of the net in the 1958 Cup Final.

I am just going by the official records by the FA, which only include competitive matches.

Quite rightly the charity/community shield doesn’t count as a competitive fixture in most official records.

That’s why I think Messi’s 73 goal season should actually only be 67. I don’t think Supercups and the World Club Cup (which 4 out of 6 of the ‘competing’ confederations have never won) are actual serious competitions. These are just stat padding opportunities. The kind of things that are nice to win but you forget about a day later.

Indeed.

I think the age old rule applies here: “is this silverware worthy of me getting a tattoo to commemorate it”.

If not, it shouldn’t count for records.

And nobody—player or fan—is getting a tat to remember winning the Community Shield or Club World Cup.

Well, save the Dippers… which is another arrow in our argument’s quiver. ;-)

Of course they all count, they are competitive matches ffs. Should we also not count goals against bottom 3 sides or chalk of champions league goals against lower ranked league teams?

If we win the champions league and Erling scores in the club world cup next year, you can bet I'll be counting them.

But they don't all count do they... or do we include our Joan Gamper trophy in our list of competitive achievements as well? I think the vast majority of people would say no.

There is a spectrum here and all we're disagreeing on is where you draw the line.

I'm saying I draw the line based on which tournaments clubs base their seasonal cycle around. Those are the ones they are trying to win, everything else is just decoration. If the community shield really counted then the teams competing in it would bring back their players to train earlier so they had fully fit squads but they don't. They often play weakened teams and make 5 subs at half time.

Scored 60 league goals in his record season and followed that up with 44 league goals the next !

He definitely was for his day.

But I’ll go out on a limb and wager he’d struggle to score in a modern top flight football match.

Though, he’d love not getting hacked to death every match.

The FA aren’t counting them for the official records so we aren’t, either.
