Istanbul Bar and Food prices

no worries,
if i were you, i use the metro, or bus from stadium to city center. then you may use metro from city center to SAW (it may not be open at that time to SAW, let's check match week/ metros will be open from stadium to center, but i am not sure about SAW metro). or come to city center, then taxi.
or after the game, if you can find a taxi, take it. it may be hard to find a taxi. it is always hard in istanbul to find a taxi.
How much would a taxi cost from city centre to SAW approximately?

W also andHow much would a taxi cost from city centre to SAW approximately?
Im staying at SAW also and my host calculates 2hrs on metro to ground. He thinks metro closes at 1.30 weekends, so no chance of getting back. The premium on a taxi for that distance at that time of night, if he'll go that far, think London.
I took the easy way out and booked another nights airbnb next to the ground, I'll plod home on sunday via the delights of the city.
Hope you can work something out, I'd have gladly shared with you.

After the match we will probably not get back to the city centre until 2-3am. Will anywhere still be open at that time?

hi, 1 more detail,
food is cheap in istanbul. For european people (purchasing power)
so, if you go to a restaurant; since they will know that you are european, and you find the prices cheap, they will try to increase the bills. most of them do that.
so, check the menu in advance, check the prices and calculate your bill.
dont tip more than 10%. or whatever you like :))))) restaurant owners will kill me if they read this post.
cheers.

Got a mate who is travelling via SAW with his 2 kids so we will probably share a people carrier back to SAW if we can. I thought about the air bnb in city centre option but early flight out of SAW on Sunday morning, likelihood is taxi Istanbul to saw hotel and get him to wait while we pick up bags and take us straight to airport

For those who haven't travelled abroad much of late. The friendly banks now in the main charge foreign cards for withdrawals, often upto 8 euros. Not all of them do and if you want a free list for Istanbul theres a post on Trip Advisor,
Using an ATM that doesn't charge a fee for foreign cards in Turkey. ING bank, Halk Bank, Ziraat bank, Seker Bank and also the PTT (Post Office) and always remember, refuse the offer of currency conversion the ATM offers.

Remember dont accept the offer to take their exchange rate either, pay in TLira

yes, besiktas pubs open until 4.00 am. Kadıkoy pubs open at 4.00 am. i am not visiting taksim late at night for years (nevizade street), but they are most problably will be open. i will ask them for you later. probably, since you are coming to town, taksim pubs will be open also. i will check.

it is forbidden to sell acohol at stores after 22.00. but some of the stores does. there is one in taksim center. there are others in taksim. also besiktas, kadıkoy, there are stores selling alcohol till 4.00 or something.
you are coming to town, and they know it, so they will be waiting for you :)
cheers.

guys, @Blue Maverick is 100% right.

turks prefer euros or usd cash than turkish liras.

if you say that ''i am good at currency calculations/basic math'' dont carry turkish liras. EURO or USD you may use anywhere.

Yeah, but the exchange rate for us for TRY at the minute is amazing. I would imagine the cost of beer/food will be more expensive if paying € rather than TRY but perhaps you can confirm Kerem?
You previous posts suggests beer may be increased to 100 TRY, just over £4 GBP which is approximately €4.60.
Every penny counts!!!

:)) you are right. Turkish lira will fluctuate a lot this week. tomorrow elections. you will see incredible movements on turkish lira, this week and next. until the final. :))) i am serious.

yes you are right. for example: you sit in a pub today. bill is 1.000 TRY. you can five 50 USD (i am not following GBP rate); then it will be a little more expensive as of today. but if you five 45 USD for example, they will accept. Why?
i dont wanna bore you with financial stuff. AT THE MOMENT THERE ARE 2 CURRENCY RATES FOR TURKISH LIRA.
ONE RATE IN THE BANKS (TURKISH LIRA IS MORE VALUABLE)
one rate is in the streets ( Turkish lira is less valuable)
for example now: in banks USD/TRY is 20
in the streets (in exchage offices in the streets) it is 22 something.

so, the situation is complicated, it will be more comlicated after monday :))))
keep in touch :)))

Also @kerem gokmen i‘m sure quite a few blues, me included, would be more than happy to buy you a drink or two on the Saturday if you’re in or around Taksim. You’ve been a big help to blues with your updates. Big thanks.
Teşekkürler
cheers. i will be so glad. i will be around on friday and saturday. keep in touch. i may give my phone number whoever asks.
