Manchester United are on the verge of doing something quite incredible. They have in effect signed a player with a value of roughly £250 million for the cheaper price of £65 million. It really is quite extraordinary. You also have to consider the significance of Mount turning down Real Madrid and Manchester City to come here. That tells us a lot about the pulling power of Manchester United.

Mount snubs City! It’s always been about playing for the Red Devils at The Theatre of Dreams.

As a dyed in the wool " Love Glazers Hate ManU" devotee I confess I've always viewed the sale of ManU , at the kind of price the Glazers apparently want ( £6Billion ), as extremely unlikely. Ashton's "Ministry of Truth" appear to be working overtime to keep ManU's 1.5 Billion "followers" hoping that there is light at the end of their tunnel. There are so many aspects of the bidding process that don't make sense : why so many deadlines ? After the fourth deadline Ratcliffe was given "preferred bidder" status and " would be given access to the clubs accounts". Gordon Bennet ! are these supposed bidders offering £4 Billion for the club without even seeing the accounts?

I read today that "Sheikh Jassim is now considering a bid for Tottenham !!

To progress the Rags do need to get rid of the Glazers. They need a very benevolent ( and stupid ) buyer to bail them out. It certainly won't happen in this transfer window. Why would any buyer pay £5 Billion ( supposedly the most recent bid ). Incidentally , today's share price of $23 indicates a Company Value of £3.3Billion. Prior to the offer to sell, (before speculators piled in ) the share price was $10 ( Company Value £1.5 Billion.)

Financially - the Rags are struggling ( Quarterly accounts out next week ! )
Would a buyer pay £6Billion when :
Losses have been mounting for the past 3 Years
Borrowings are soaring - there's a Billion Pounds of 3rd party debt.
Income streams have flat lined for 5 or more years.
Their main sponsor is desperately trying to get out of their commitment to the club
Last season's income will be seriously impacted by their absence from the Champions League
Highest wage bill in World Football and most players unsellable as a result.
The need to spend a Billion Pounds on a new ground
Rising interest rates and the need to refinance debt.
Little leeway for buying new players given their bank-rolling of Ten Bob ( and not forgetting Gill's FFP )

And yet my search engine news site advises me that ManU are contenders to buy 31 players ( with a transfer value of £2 Billion ! ). They include

Moses Caicedo £70M "Shock move for"
Tchouameni £70M "Vying for signature"
Declan Rice £100M "Huge bid made"
Mason Mount £60M "Terms Agreed"
Randal Kolo Muani £85M "Offer Accepted"
Harry Kane £100M "Have told Kane to ask for a transfer"
Victor Osimeni £128M "Rivalling PSG for signature"
Rico Barella £100M "Astonishing Bid"
Adrian Rabot £60M "Eager to join Utd"
Not forgetting Kylian Mbappe (£200M ) " A target - the fake Sheikh is apparently keen to sign" ( notwithstanding his interest in buying Tottenham ? )

Interesting times and never believe anything you read about ManU.

Are you certain of all the above ? This is Leeds II material if true ! Next season could be soooo good !

Probably been mentioned on here before but maguires court case in Greece is imminent which says to me he is leaving the rags either by mutual consent or getting sold. No way was he going to be convicted whilst playing for that lot.

I've seen mentioned a few times, that United's 4th all time highest money recieved for a player was Dan James...

So I popped over to transfermarkt (so pinch of salt with the figures/exchange rates)....and compared City vs United:

So.. not much in it, at 1st glance.
Ronaldo - the exception.

But if you look at the seasons of these transfers you see something more.
In the last 5 years, united have sold 4 players that make their top 19. Lukaku E74m (how?) in 19/20, James E29m in 21/22 (how??), Blind E16m 18/19 and Smalling E15m 20/21.

You then look at City and the top 6 are all in the past 5 years, and there's another 5 in the top 19.

Going back past the last 10 years, united have 9, City 5 (with SWP being the standout for us)

You can see why the spending power of the 2 clubs has gone in diametrically different ways - along with boost of City's success on the field (with it's TV money, and trophies etc) - united don't seem to get any sell-on value from their squad in recent times.

Maybe to paraphrase Ferguson, 'There's no value in the United selling market'

Doing the same for Buying:

It all looks quite similar in the values.

In the last 5 years, united have 10 of their most expensive top 19, and City have 7.
Trying to catch up big spending style!

We spent a lot in the few years just prior 5 years, so lets extend to 10 years - united have 17, City 18

So with buying of players, it's pretty close over 10 years. Just the trophy and money coming in count that is different :-D

When you buy shit you get fuckall when you try to offload them . They never learn

The rags offering mctominay and Maguire as make weights for the Rice deal. What fuckwit would want either of those two twats anywhere near their first eleven.Oh yes probably David Moyes. Ycmiu

£120m plus Mctominay & Maguire I’d expect.

West Ham favour our £85m.
