The Titanic

Explorers such as these should have to pay some kind of recovery insurance before their explorations. Maybe they do.

Of course they would say that, but it is at odds with the letter signed by numerous technical engineers, which states quite clearly they didn't undergo a proper independently verified prototype testing program as advised by regulatory bodies. That is by definition cutting corners.

No element of a novel or experimental vehicle can be considered safe until it has been through a rigorous testing program, because until that is done, its safety and efficacy is entirely theoretical.

They can state that they built something which they felt in good faith was sufficient for the depth required. The fact is, they never proved it and that is almost certainly why it is now lying 6,000m deep in the ocean.
Fuck me how did it manage to drill another 2200m down into the ocean floor after it failed?

all human life valued equally?

Imagine a sub with Putin, Trump, Thatcher, Boris, HRHarry and Braverman on board...

I sense the sympathy would have been somewhat diluted.

Pretty much bang on the money. Everyone would be celebrating and laughing over the deaths.

Everyone crying and being offended over these people dying seems disingenuous. So typical of the world we live in today.

They'll watch a famine on the news and do a speech how bad it is, then walk to their fridge and cut themselves a few slices of Stilton with a bag of mccoys

Everyone would be celebrating and laughing over the deaths.

Can only speak for myself. I wouldn't laugh at anyone's death.
Maybe if that sub had been manned by Hitler, Himmler, Goering, Goebbels and Heydrich. And even then, I don't think I'd laugh. I'd just have a grim sense that humanity had lost nothing whatsoever, and might well have gained something.
On the other hand, I'm not grieving over someone I never met, and never knew. Thinking a bit, though, of the mother of that lad. She lives on, and lives with it.

You hate harry as much as putin and trump? Weird
Not at all - what is weird, is your conclusion that such was the case. I merely used them as examples of people who polarise opinion. I didn't say or imply I hated or indeed admired any of them. Maybe you should not rush to judgement or jump to conclusions - that way you'll minimise the risk of making yourself look foolish. If it's an honest mistake, I'll accept your admission/apology.

James Cameron saying they would have been aware of the hull failing as an alarm would have gone off. Reckons they could have been making their way up when it imploded. Grim
