It’s been mentioned before, and Tolmie mentioned it today - but it should not be understated how hard it would be to run back anything next season given how mentally and physically exhausting this season was. We have a few players on the opposite end of their prime. and I’m not pep, but I would imagine it’s insanely difficult to get players to buy in mentally year after year. A refresh is needed from a mental standpoint as much as any. Now they’re stuck in a holding pattern until sales are done? Outrageous

Well you cannot overdo it either. Laporte(no bids), Cancelo, Gundogan and perhaps one more is big enough clear out without it having major effects on the squad.

Bernardo looks to be staying according to Jacks piece, Mahrez probably staying too.

Possibly, Jack mentioned that they liked Maddison but didn't do anything because no-ones left. As Phillips wasn't part of the bid for Rice...this makes no sense. It didn't matter yesterday.

We have players in the squad who will easily go on loan at the very least - Perrone & Laporte are prime examples. There's no real need to be constrained by squad size/limits at this point.

It also wasn't an issue or concern when bidding for Rice. Even if they were thinking they would need to move Phillips on, they were being proactive with trying to sign Rice.
