Elon Musk

Looks like Threads might actually reach critical mass and take people away from twitter.

Elons in trouble.

For me it is
Is it really though? I haven't been on it for a while, but last time I was on there, the main thing I noticed was the replies. They used to be ordered in terms of engagement, meaning that popular posts were at the top of the replies to anything. That basically means that you were likely to see the best/funniest/most interesting responses to a Tweet first. Last time I went on, the top responses were just full of nob heads who've bought a blue tick, with everyone else being buried way down the list. So content is no longer being promoted in order of audience engagement, but just on the basis of whether someone has paid.

And while we're at it, who are these people who are cheering on Threads? Have you ever used any of Facebook's apps? They're way worse than Twitter for not showing you anything you actually follow and just forcing bullshit on you. No doubt it'll be great for the first year or so, but as soon as they get a decent number of users, they'll ruin it with adverts and sponsored content like they have with every other app they own.

Correct. Replies have now become absolutely worthless on almost every news topic. Not possible to find additional insight in them buried under the blue check muck. I am sticking with Twitter for a few posters I like but for work it has become near unusable as folks don’t so much go to Threads but have stopped posting altogether, or move to LinkedIn to post content.

Facebook is absolutely appalling now — I am not kidding when I say 8 out of 10 posts in my feed are absolutely, befuddlingly irrelevant with maybe 1 in 10 of interest and the other 1 in 10 from a friend or group. I’m just about to give up entirely on it.

Fucked off Twitter about a year ago. Don’t really miss it. Never had Facebook or owt else. Only ‘social media’ I’m on is LinkedIn and even that’s getting full of bots/ knobhead’s making everything about pushing right wing politics.

Yeah 100m they have now only another 300m and they’ll have the same as Twitter

Twitter has 300m monthly users, only about 187m daily users.

Threads reaching 100m inside a week is significant, and shows how many people are looking for an alternative to twitter.

Have to say though, it's crushingly dull over there. I don't think it's a surprise given its made up mainly from an Instagram audience. It's all very live laugh love and cringey office group chat-esque. Engagement feels low too. We'll see if people actually use it once signed up.

It’s also 5 days old to be fair, most posts are something like “ok let’s try this!” etc

Presumably at some point they’ll get past that phase and actually start posting stuff.

Agree think when people have used it for 6 months it carries on growing it will start to fall into the Twitter mode more! Be interesting when the premier league starts how it looks..

With only America and the uk allowed allowed on Threads at them moment you not getting the bots and the brain dead tweets from far flung supporters! Be interesting if they’ll add more countries..

Threads will eventually tighten up to be the largest echo chamber out of them all before long, populated by nodding Dogs and sycophants.

Threads is going to be exceptionally dangerous because of the privacy aspect and I'd hazard against its use. Meta have seen this as a perfect opportunity to launch an app because people politically object to Twitter those people will blindly follow to use it.

Meta/Facebook has history on this, it's almost absolutely certain that a key part of Threads will be AI algorithms that will detect your political persuasions and who knows what from your posts. It's literally mentioned in the privacy agreement that you agree to share massive chunks of your data.

Threads is just Facebook dumbed down to your own words which they'll use to build a profile of you and sell to the highest bidder. Twitter makes money from advertising to you, Threads will make money from selling you to advertisers.
