ULEZ Letter

10 years ago, total taxes from the motorist were £38bn.
Fuel duties accounted for £26bn of that, plus another £4bn in VAT.
A big %age of electric leaves a big tax hole.

Tax per mile will be here before we know it.
If only for non-petrol/diesel then fair enough as long as similar overall rate.
I'm never getting an electric car so don't care too much.

But this is the government we are talking about.
In the future....
Non-electric? Pay excessive fuel duty, even higher than today, in the Great Green Crusade.
Electric? Pay per mile, plus higher rates in city centres because we can.
Big electric car/SUV? Pay more per mile, because it wins votes from the greenies.
Hybrid? Heads I win, tails you lose, get you both ways.
They’ve already started to make EVs pay road tax, then they’ll increase the tax in electric from your home, just a pity that £38bn isn’t used to sort out the roads.

Can you stop following me around like a bad smell.

You don't have anything to contribute other than bloviating.

Unless you can give me 500 words on why children should get asthma, and people should die from air pollution because of stubborn arseholes unwilling to replace their dirty cars.

Ha ha, says the guy who answers my every post or gives a like to anyone who says a bad thing about me.
This holier than thou approach has actually bitten you on the bum on this thread with other posters not so impressed by your I am trying to save the world single handedly from all evil

Must do better and apply yourself.

Motorists should kick back and tell all politicians to go fuck themselves.

Taxation of drivers is borderline criminal in its levels.

ULEZ is yet again, all about revenue dressed up as them pretending to give a shit about the environment.

Try air pollution and it's effect on pedestrians , otherwise known as your fellow humans.

What was that about GB News having no effect on the general public :)

Modern combustion engines are cleaner than they have ever been and continue to be cleaner.

Hybrid and electric vehicles are becoming ever more popular although how green that tech is when you dig down is questionable.

Tell us your plans for ditching combustion engines overnight and how will it be paid for?

I’m all ears?

In all fairness I have sent for the Cavalry from the Farage site, they owe you big time for all those likes you gave them, they are just a bit busy at the moment.
I take it your not a car driver so your all for banning them because the new rules don't affect you.

Fucking lol. Seriously is that the best response? It was a Tory (Johnson) who originally proposed this… the same Tory who you’d call cruel/heartless yet because it’s now a Labour mayor it’s fine.

Fuck me the world is on its head these days
I am afraid Mr K is towing his comrades line.
If in doubt revert to standard reply

Hypocrisy is all part and parcel of this forum blue.

Which supports a policy like ULEZ, which is designed to get rid of older polluting cars more quickly, doesn't it?

Do you even have a car from before 2006?

Over 93% of cars in the UK are ULEZ compliant and don't pay anything.

And of the remaining 7%, over a third are exempt for other reasons.

So this change matters to about 2% of car drivers.

In fact, the supposed revenue coming in from this scheme of £93.6m a year works out as approx 20,000 cars. In a city with 2.6m. So that's actually 0.7% of cars in London.

There's absolute no way that all the people suddenly pretending they care about this 8 year old Boris Johnson policy are actually affected by it in any way.

If it's only going to affect about 2% of car drivers and factor in more and more going electric - then why has he bothered to bring this in at all?

A broken clock is right twice a day.

I seem to remember Boris was keen to take all the credit for Ken's bikes and the Olympics.

Only very daft people agree that air pollution in urban areas is a good idea, and nothing should be done to reduce it.

But because you can't see it, it's easier to turn a blind eye. But you can get out of your car and walk past a busy road and taste it.
God that's an old one the broken clock answer, I am reminising my school days
As I thought a none car driver with an opinion on cars

I should have known.
I bet he is one of those stop the oil protesters who sit in the road with a placard
