Mahrez needs replacing. In an ideal world, Palmer and McAtee would be good enough to step in but I haven't seen anything close to suggest they'll make up Riyad's productivity. It's not a slight against our youth, just a reflection of how good we are as a team. The reality is, unless they are a literal special breed (see Foden), they aren't going to make it with us.

And getting Phil or Bernardo to cement that RW spot just leaves us further short in midfield.

Given the war chest we supposedly sit on, we can't be a Gvardiol away from being done in the market. Surely.

If we end up just signing kovacic and it’s looking increasingly likely then it will go down as a bad transfer window .

More players may come but it seems to be pretty not well planned currently.
 
A bit early to panic yet, but are Sheikh Mansour and Khaldoon reigning in the spending and taking the money now City have (finally) won the CL and done the treble?

Why would they do that rather than try to win it again?

No we haven't. But we've spent above net consistently over the years despite not being profligate. Thus far this window, we are +~£30mil and seemingly no closer to landing Gvardiol. We're yet to spend a penny when we should have wriggle room to attack the market aggressively. If the window stays as it is, it's concerning.

Ok thanks, I haven’t followed the net spend numbers that closely so wasn’t sure exactly.

Tbh after last season, I’m pretty relaxed about this particular window. Based on those last 2 warm up games we still have a lot of incredible talent, but I do accept the fact any more who leave from now on might alter things.

Don't get me wrong mate, the figure I used is a rough estimate. But if we factor in the Mahrez fee, that's basically paid for Kovacic. And we've made around 30-40mil off youth talent thus far, yet are still being ultra-cautious.

It's interesting you say you're relaxed, because I'm the opposite. It feels like we're happily standing still; someone referenced it the other day but it's post-2012 winning season vibes with this window.

We may still win the league next season, but I do think the teams around us are strengthening. It's about forward planning at this stage; that's why Gvardiol is so important as a long term investment. It worries me that there are no credible links to another top class midfielder and a winger to replace Mahrez.
 
Where are the ITKs when you need em..

Maybe it will pick up pace again when the team returns home
 
Last 18 months we’ve sold 3 forwards/wingers (Ferran, Sterling and Mahrez) and not signed a single replacement (Haaland replaced Jesus). I think we need another winger, unless Bernardo is used out wide full time, but then we’d probably need another midfielder
 
Eventhough I want another exciting entertaining star to replace Riyad, I think we should be ok with what we already have.

Jack, Bernardo & Foden should be good enough to fill the RW/LW positions.

As well as Alvarez, Palme & Gomez to fill in when required.
 
Let's be realistic here we've lost Mahrez who had become a non regular starter and Gundo who was probably on his last best season for us. We've still retained the team that won the treble. People are acting like losing these players means we're left with half a team when this is just not the case.

Those 3 plus Palmer and Bobb should br fine imo.

Im not as upset as some seem to be.

Id like us to sign a top winger, but if we dont, im happy with what we got.

Gvardiol needs to come in though, especially so if Laporte and/or Walker are out.

Never scored more than 11 league goals, only got more than 15 goals total once (24 in 21-22).

And what about his contributions for the first 2 years of our current 3 PL win. Not just the PL but the CL as well. Did you manage to factor that in your absolute shit take.

They may not have the same impact but for this season we will still notice their losses in the team. Kovacic signing is a good one and is so far showing encouraging signs but still will take time to fully adapt. Mahrez was good for 15 goals last season and was always useful for getting double figures throughout his time at City.
