Post Something Interesting

AC/DC’s Money Talk’s is their least played live hit despite it being the highest charting. Rumour has it Brian doesn’t like it and the band considers it ‘too poppy’.
Long live “The boy with the devil in his fingers and the blues in his soul“.

A local bye-law bans elephants from being lead under the approach tunnel to Heathrow.

I was once on a canal tour in Amsterdam as one of two brits alongside a large group of Japanese tourists. At one point the guy doing the tour starts explaining in a dead pan fashion that the reason the buildings and their openings are narrow was for protection from rampaging elephants from the times when the city was infested with them after imported elephants escaped and started breeding in the wild. As this 'fact' was being translated and seemingly being earnestly discussed by the Japanese tourists we just stared at him and he looked at us in a sort 'yes, what's your point?' kind of way. He subsequently told us he got easily bored and this was his way of amusing himself if the opportunity arose.

In the Middle Ages, no minstrel or musician could ply his trade in the County Palatine of Chester without a licence from the Dutton family. A special licensing court was held in Chester each year on the Feast of St John the Baptist. The last such court was held in 1756.

(A County Palatine was, in effect, a separate state from England with its own local courts and customs. There were no extradition treaties, so if you committed a crime in (say) Staffordshire and fled into Cheshire, the Staffordshire people could not touch you. Medieval Cheshire was a bit like the Wild West.)
