Nottingham Forest (H) | Sat 23rd Sept | PL | Post Match Thread

After the sending off apart from one run from Phil just about nobody kept hold of or carried the ball. That was a whole team worry (i.e. that losing Rodri was like losing more than 1 player) and to lay it all at Phillips’ door is wrong. Some of you lot are like school bullies the way you need to single a player out, in fact many of you probably still are at school
and Phil lost the ball with that run

Just watched the red card again in super slow motion. When Gibbs White went down it was Foden's hand that touched his neck and not Rodri. Foden then turned away, doubled over and pretended he had a pain in the stomach. I'd originally thought that Rodri raised his hands to his neck twice but it was only the first time, which was a good few seconds before he hit the deck like a sack of spuds. I'm surprised if VAR saw this how Rodri could still have gone, although he raised his hands it was obvious it was for show rather than with intent to hurt him. For me it's the usual case of VAR not wanting to overrule a referees decision, or have the referee change his mind as a result of it. Some will say Rodri was stupid and shouldn't have raised his hands, I agree but it seemed a very weak call to me, especially considering Rodri should have had a foul due to Gibbs White constant shoves in the back.

Your comment about Phillips is 100% spot on. He had a couple of runs deep into their half. He lost control and made himself look amateurish. Sorry to say it (I know he wears a blue shirt), but what is he doing in one of the best squads in the world?
Looks out of his depth because he’s surrounded by world class players which he unfortunately isn’t…….

Done a search and couldn’t find a reference so apologies if it has been discussed already but does anyone know what was going on with one of the backroom staff (think it was Brandon) running round (and on) the pitch to give a message to Ederson?

Second half, I think it wasn’t long after the red card if I remember rightly.

If he would have jumped in with both feet and put his studs in Gibbs-White knee as a reaction and statement to these shitbags I would have applauded him for it, but doing what he did was just plain stupid and uncharacteristically immature from him.

I also understand its a clear red under current rules, but it feels a bit silly that you can literally kick someone repeatedly with little to no punishment and you get a red from a reaction that doesnt endanger the opponent in any way. What kind of idiot came up with the rule that pushing the opponent should be punished harder than kicking him?

Rodri won us the Champions League so he is off the hook in my book but he has now put our team in a difficult situation, especially since we could already barely assemble a bench before his 3 match ban. We can just pray we dont get any more injuries now. And that we beat Arsenal anyway, which I think we will.
I’d take a draw Arsenal away now, luckily the players have stronger mentality and willing be gunning for the win

He told him I’ll get the changing room floor wet again if you keep a clean sheet

Nightmare from Rodri, he’ll be bitterly disappointed with his behaviour. Will be a huge loss for the Arsenal game. Not a lot of positives out of the game other than a resolute defence. Less said about Philips the better. He’s dire and a championship level player.
If we can get £45 to £50 million from West Ham or Noocasul add another £40 for Pacqueta we become unstoppable again!

According to that fount of all wisdom T Sinclair on Talksport, Brandon was sent round to remind Eddy that he had already been booked and shouldn't take too much time with goal kicks; just in case Alty Anty fancied us having a go with 9 players.

Forest were utterly boring in the first half. They did sod all.

We were in control and coasting. Scored two nice goals (the first was brilliant!).

It would have petered out to a boring 3-0 with half the stadium gone by 85 minutes and nothing happening for the last 20 minutes. But the sending off (Gibbs White is a cheat hut it’s still a red card) made it interesting and brought some excitement to the game.

Only bad thing is Rodri will miss Arsenal away and we don’t have Gündoğan anymore to play there.
Yes was very muted at 2v0 and the dodgy ref and 10 men led to an exciting vocal fan performance

This is 100% correct, I said to the guy to the side of me I could see this happening, and then saw Brandon relay a message to Ederson.

The Alty Cheat would have mentally rewritten the LotG and suggested you can't sub a goalie if yer've already had a player sent off and we're in the last quarter of the game, and Forest are starting to play a bit, and yer new 'goalie' had a shirt with the City crest!
