Nottingham Forest (H) | Sat 23rd Sept | PL | Post Match Thread

I thought Nunez was outstanding, we ha e a real player there, he glides past people and his movement in erlings goal show high football intelligence. Forest are poor but probably better than 3 other teams in the league.
I agree, Burnley, Luton and the rags..!

the red card could have been avoided if the alty twat had given a free kick for the obvious barge in the back on rodri which sent him to ground then the forest player all over him when he'd won the ball back, fuck me he couldn't wait to get the red out
Agree he couldn't wait to get his card out.
The fact the VAR review took so long as well was quite telling.
Clearly they thought the Alty cheat had been a bit hasty and it wasn't that clear cut in real time hence them asking him to hang fire. Taylor put his hand against his ear so was clearly listening to VAR advising him to wait.
By the letter of the law it was a red but the point is that Taylor couldn't wait to flash his card and had he refereed the match to an acceptable standard prior to this we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Certainly true with Lewis but as fans we should support Kalvin, ain’t nothing for us in being negative, maybe he’ll get some confidence back and start to add some value
The selection without Rodri will tell us exactly what Pep thinks.

Not looking for any targets or scapegoats….just saying the lad’s been here for quite a while now and injury or not had plenty of opportunity to show something at some stage which he just hasn’t.
I would love him to prove me wrong as I will always support anyone pulling on our shirt but I continue to fear he’s just not up to the job.
He did prove you wrong. He did as well as anyone in midfield or attack when he came on yesterday. He also did well for England. People just need to take their “Phillips is shit” blinkers off. He wasn’t shit yesterday

Established England international Kalvin Phillips you mean? He certainly hasn’t done well at City, hasn’t worked for him, yet at least, but some of you lot need to give the lad a break, fucking hell. He played well for England in Scotland, and he did ok when he came on yesterday. It’s really poor the shit he’s getting, any mistake highlighted, anything good ignored. There’s always been scapegoats (Crossan, Power, Edgehill, Mahrez, Phillips etc) and it’s always been pathetic.
There were plenty slagging off Rodri during his first season.

Does the PFA take action against its members for getting another member sent off ?

Gibbs-white clearly plays up trying to get a fellow member of the PFA in trouble. It's not a good look for the PFA
I’ve often thought that there should be a PFA rule sanctioning play acting that’s gets a fellow pro into trouble. Fat chance.

Every club fans base in the history of the game have always had a scape goat it's sad but it will never change! Philips did have a run of games end of last season he did ok but the results performance did drop! Pep has watched him in training coached him now for over a year and has hardly played! Now the best manager ever must see something in him he doesn't trust? He will play in the cup game midweek but I expect him to be benched for the Wolves game..
That’s not the point though is it? When the results dropped off (I assume you mean Brighton and Brentford) Pep made wholesale changes, not just Phillips. The players also had their minds in bigger fixtures, all of them. I agree Pep clearly isn’t keen, but my point is Phillips did ok yesterday yet still he is the one people slag off. Godri got sent off, Erling missed a sitter, but a lot of people just want to dig out Kalvin. He did ok yesterday

Watching the match back, and paying closer attention to Forest and their chosen way of stopping the best team on the planet. I now see that City players were getting a real kicking, right through the match. Shortly before his red card, Rodri was absolutely clobbered from behind. Taylor was letting far, far too much go.
Those two goals are among the best you'll see at any stadium on earth. Same thing for that final save from Ed.
Really proud of this team.
Fuck Forest.

Not saying he’s shit
He’s just not shown the level required by this team
He doesn’t go looking for the ball or making himself available in the way Rodri does
At the end of the day we are entitled to our opinions and they can differ…

as the saying goes - you can only play what's in front of you .... he hasn't let anyone down. He needs a proper chance. You don't go from being a starter for the england team and a respected defender to being a flop
Slabhead likes this post.

A small thing I’ve noticed in each of the last four games is players trying to control a pass that was clearly not intended for them but for a player farther away. It’s often led either to a loss of possession or a break down in our build up. It’s not something we saw last season as the players then were all on the same wavelength and used to playing with each other. As I say, it’s not a big thing but it is indicative of a team whose players are still getting used to each other.
