The graun hasnt changed, its the landscape shifting so far to the right the old "centre" is now called "hard left" .FFS. It took two world wars for democracy to escape the tyranny of unfettered capitalism, but it hasn't survived. Brexit was the "Do Not Rescusitate" label.

I'm not just talking of the amount we pay but the system itself needs reform. I mean christ it was devised before WW1, the NHS wasn't considered with NI because the NHS didn't exist at the time! We're one of the only countries with an insurance model that doesn't actually insure us against anything.

The one purpose of NI is to get you a state pension but that pension is almost pointless and that's if you get it because the goalposts are constantly moved. Because of this shite system, the aim of politicians is now to find a way to not give you a state pension or give you as little as possible, so why are we paying NI? Nobody below 40 really has any chance of retiring before 70 so for anyone in that bracket again what is the point of even paying NI?

It's also ridiculously complicated, I know of nobody who actually understands it. Almost everyone who is planning for retirement will need a minimum of workplace pension and potentially a private one. In this climate, to rely on the state pension is stupid and this is purely because of the shortcomings of NI and the state pension. Obviously NI funds other things but for working people this is what affects them most.

We should be paying far less general tax and instead we should pay a revised form of NI alongside a health NI which goes to fund the NHS. The NHS should also be charging services against NI instead of relying on a politically biased pit of money that comes from overall taxation or like now which comes mostly from borrowing. The (not private) health insurance model is how it works in Europe and it works very well.

The stark difference in the reverence BBC national News give the Tories in comparison with BBC local radio is stark.

No wonder Tim Davie is closing them down.

No mate - Rochdale - Batley - Carlisle - Stoke - Winchester - Bodmin and Billericay and everywhere in between - they have pillaged all the lives of all their citizens in the last decade - even the cap doffing poor and the snobbish middle classes are now being hit and realising the reason why their arseholes are sore.

This is such a brazen attempt to court the conspiracy theorists, it’s a new low.
