Middle East Conflict

Is calling pro Palestinian protesters ‘terrorist cunts’ racist?

There’s no need for the aggression and pushing and shoving but IMO that’s not in and of itself a racist statement.

Clearly a load of wankers just out looking for trouble though and that’s both sides.

These protests should’ve been banned on armistice day. By all means have them, but have them on a different day in a different place.

Course it is assuming the people they called terrorist cunts were Muslim.

Ok let’s unpick this.

Hamas are a load of terrorist cunts and anyone excusing their actions - and in the case of these protests outright defending their actions - are a load of terrorist sympathising cunts.

Now I’m not defending a load of coked up pissed EDL wankers - they can fuck right off - but I don’t think the phrase ‘terrorist cunts’ in the above context is racist.

Obviously going up to a random Muslim on the street just going about their business and calling them a ‘terrorist ****’ is abhorrent and totally racist, but that’s not what happened here.

Were they wearing Hamas regalia? We don't know maybe they were. Let's say they were, could you then call them terrorist cunts?

There's a LOT of things people can't say these days and people are twisting themselves up into knots trying to use victim status to shut up criticism or debate.

Maybe you should ask him about internationally agreed genocidal murder definition as well. And ask if Israel is committing it.
I would should I have wanted to. I wasn’t trying to inflame the rhetoric though.

I was trying to ask a specific question about people wasting too much time defining anti-semitism (and also the need of having to type out the caveat of Hamas not being the whole of Palestine) and not concentrating more on actually debating what needs to happen from here.

If we don’t do that, the death count will keep on rising and it’ll return to some sort of where it was before and no doubt recur in the future.

The fact there’s some people on here trying to explain to a Jewish poster what is and isn’t antisemitic says everything about the problem the political left in this country has with antisemitism.
I disagree. I’m asking what use it has, because everybody who posts anything anti Israel is pretty much perceived as anti-Semitic, whether they are or not.

In a mad week that saw some positives in between the carnage such as pro Anti Semitism March's led by the Far right, and Ambassador of Humanity Tony Blair being considered as Gaza humanitarian coordinator, it looks like things could get ugly this week as Gazas main Hospital is finally put out of action and Israels President Issac Herzog turns his attention to children's bedrooms

Are we not getting sidetracked with all these side debates?

In the meantime thousands of innocent civilians are dying, it’s absolute carnage
This was my point, articulated as clearly as I couldn’t manage.

I didn’t mean to sidetrack the thread, so will leave it there and hope it’s answered.

Thanks.

Well you've just made your own context where they are pro Hamas.

'' Obviously going up to a random Muslim on the street just going about their business and calling them a ‘terrorist ****’ is abhorrent and totally racist, but that’s not what happened here.''

Why have you decided this without knowing anything?

What happened on the 7th was appalling, humanity at its very worst, what has happened since is equally as bad.

Israel has gone too far, this now is simply bloody revenge and religious bigotry, bombing 1/2 a city into the ground with it 1000s of kids.

Israel is constantly playing the victim card, it simply has to look at itself and it's actions, it is going to bring years of issues for its population within and outside it's borders for decades and maybe for good reason.
I think you underestimate the extent to which the Holocaust impinges on Jewish memory.

The history of antisemitism is not simple either. It's probably not even a helpful term in itself when it can cover everything from "some Jews are rich and/or have too much influence" to "let's exterminate all Jews" (and when the term was coined even a Zionist leader like Herzl could use what would now be called antisemitic tropes). Alternatively it's a "soft" euphemism for hating Jews.

The IHRA examples are not law. I think they do try to tread a fine line to distinguish between opposition to policies of the state of Israel and being antisemitic, but it's hard to hold that line when many do not make that distinction. I recall the shock in Terry Waite's voice when in a radio interview years ago when he was accused of being antisemitic because he'd criticised Israel - someone who'd been a hostage of Muslim terrorists being accused of antisemitism.

What protests on Remembrance Sunday?
